There are plenty of great ideas but honestly, you should watch the film instead.

Really more like 2.5 stars. The idea is good and the story is good, but it is far too short! It's very frantic and feels half done. It's like the original Ender's Game short story. With some expansion and more detailed world-building, this could have been a masterpiece.

**2022 re-read**

I read this again and liked it even less. More like 1.5 stars. Even if expanded, the story is dated and silly, and full of inconsistencies and problematic scenes.

I dunno. It was okay. Nothing amazing, nothing really kept me reading. I mostly enjoyed the ride, but it was never enough to make me really -want- to read.

Though it’s been around for a while, this book is highly regarded in the sci-fi genre. It focuses on a society in which everyone dies at the age of 21, and has strong similarities to stories like Brave New World and The Maze Runner series. While I can’t say that this book was my favorite story, I can appreciate the influences it had on the sci-fi genre.

Definitely do not trust me on this one. I am an unapologetic fangirl.

I wanted to compare it to the movie. The movie was better. The domed city makes more sense. The book does mention how the youth only society was established although 21yo was cutoff. The book was only about 130pgs so it was light on the details thus why there was little in the movie. A few interesting ideas, though.

Picked this up after seeing the movie, hoping for more details about the society. Stopped about halfway through when I realized that it was just a poorly written book with a cool idea that some filmmaker snatched up the rights for, probably without actually reading the thing.

Interesting take on a dystopia, this version is very different from the 70's movie. A fun adventure story with some interesting ideas embedded if you want to dig for them. Overall, a fun, quick read

3.5, really. Fun concept, I wish it was longer and more detailed. Everything felt so rushed.
