Seen some scathing reviews of this book on here, with people talking about limited character development. Firstly, enjoy the book for what it is, a fast paced sci-fi, action-adventure novel. If you're looking for deep and profound meaning it's probably one to avoid, but it is certainly fun to read. Set many years in an ageist future, the complete originality of the world they live in alone makes for interesting reading.

All in all, it's a fairly quick and pleasant read (3.5*... rounded up!)

This was better than I thought it would be. I remember watching the cheesy movie years ago, so I wasn't expecting much from this one.

This is just weird and there’s almost too much going on. But it was a fun adventure story at times.

The film, I believe, turned a not-so-good book into a masterpiece.

I did see the film before the book and sometimes after seeing a movie, then reading the book, I tend to enjoy the source material. In all honesty, this could have been a good book but it failed.

I feel that the storyline is interesting but there was literally no development. No character growth. Everything is so limited and reserved that there is hardly any dialogue that really drives the story along. It's a point A to point B book with no filler.

Also, can we talk about how misogynistic this book is towards women? Actually, lets not, because it'll make me rage a bit. I can see that a bit of that trickled into the film. But dude, Logan, don't go smacking women and wanting to beat them. Uncool.

I had no idea half the time what was going on, because again, the author hardly develops anything. Abrupt sentences don't add to the plot unless it was told in first person narrative and it was some weird diary of Logan. It's bad writing.

I'm gonna read the other two books with an open mind.

Beginning and end were the best parts, the actual run part was chaotic and not explained as thoroughly as possible.

Disliked: objectification of Jessica (never really fleshed out as a well-defined character, more of just a love interest), the chaotic run

Liked: world building and ending wrap-up

Another unique dystopian world! The entire book is a fast-paced chase scene, but the journey weaves through many vastly different areas of this unique world which kept me well-entertained. It's an interesting concept to put everyone to sleep at 21 and I often had to stop and remember that every "woman" or "man" was actually a teenager. Overall, it was a great, quick read that painted a unique picture of the future.

What I Liked:
• I'm a sucker for 60s books that deal with a end of times world view
• Love the movie
• It's such an interesting story

What I Didn't Like:
• The writing style is muddy
• Too short to flash out characters to feel their desperation
• I still have questions

Overall Thoughts:

Why did they stop life at 21? It's never really described.

Why do they let people into the sanctuary with just a simple code? Seriously you could just torture someone for it.

Jessica was his sister before someone took over his body.

Trying to understand why it took 2 authors to write this 149 page novella.

Feels like gibberish at times.

One of the authors reads the book and I was confident for a while that it was Brent Jay Spiner reading the book.

Final Thoughts: I feel like I still have a lot of questions
