This was aaaiiight. Better than the second book in my opinion but still not better that the first. We see the gang go through all sorts of trials in this installment as the battle against WICKED gets more intense. With that being said, there’s a few key characters we lose in this book and it’s only because I thought their deaths were well done that I kept reading

This was okay. It felt like a step down from the other books in that the plot resolutions seemed really cheap to me. After having read the first two books, all the plot twists felt very predictable. This just felt like “okay, here’s the last book, let me tie up some loose ends real quick. Here y’all go”. All in all, I’m happy to have read this trilogy. I was never able to get all the way through it. I definitely started skimming through this book, especially towards the end, but I finished.

Two days. TWO DAYS. (And that includes a full-time job.) That's all it took for me to FLY through the 3rd book of this series. And it was AMAZING.
I've gotta be honest, first of all: the first two books were a bit slow for me, with no answers, etc...but the ever-impending sense of doom, destruction, and gosh-darnnit the END OF HUMANITY had me continue on until I read this book and became a complete puddle - only a hint of the person I used to be.
This book doesn't leave you with a good-time feeling at the end. The author (in true post-apocalyptic style) kills off a bunch of people - one favorite character of mine in particular, which led to a good sob in my work parking lot - thanks audiobook. In fact, it leaves you feeling quite empty with perhaps a brief wink of hope for the human race. And that's why you should read it! Because the events of this book could happen tomorrow, and the test of ourselves, as humans, as friends, as loved ones, is the true maze. Let's all be Runners!
After all, if my best friend asked, I too would pull the trigger.

Okay, I personally find that this trilogy went downhill as the books went on, leaving me less engaged with the story with each book, however, I still found the story as a whole entertaining and although I felt that this was the weakest link, it was still better than a lot of other books that I have read.
I loved the ending (last chapter) because lots of things were resolved, but it still left us asking questions, which I thoroughly enjoyed. However, the actual ending of the book as a whole (last 50 pages) felt a bit rushed. It felt like the ending of the story could've basically been the entirety of the story, but it only took up about one with of it, and I really feel like it could've been developed more.
One thing I'm not sure about is Thomas after. Now, he didn't seem that upset at this point, and I'm not sure how to feel about it. On unhand, this could be Thomas not being fully developed as a character, therefore resulting in us not seeing his emotional side. However, on the other hand, it could be Dashner showing us how Thomas has been emotionally undeveloped as a human as a result of his work in WICKED and learning not to get emotionally involved with the 'subjects'. I don't know if this is making full sense, but I've seen a lot of reviews criticising this moment, but I feel like it could be a brilliant piece of Dashner's writing, showing Thomas' low EQ.
Next, Brenda. The character development was so. strong! Yes! We found out so much about her character motivation and her past and I just loved it. Especially her bit at the end! It just left me thinking about how Brenda is such a powerful character.
My only other issues are Minho and Newt's reactions to. We didn't really see a lot of development for Newt in this book and I was really hoping to see him more and his reactions to the circumstances. I'd also have liked to have seen Minho react to this more because Newt was his best friend, you know?
Anyway, I didn't really like the first half of the book as it was so slow, but the ending saved it! Yay!
*edit: I’ve put this review down to 2 stars because I realise that this book just wasn’t good. How I ever have it four stars is beyond me. I think I wanted to love it, but I just really didn’t.
