3/5 stars:

This was a very very short story and I wish it had been longer.

I really liked having the opportunity to read from Gabriel's POV for the first time and to see him struggle with his situation (being stuck as a fain). I also really liked the slight introduction we got to his insight on Black Witches, his own identity and belonging.

Jon's POV was really useless, in my opinion, and we could have perfectly done without it and just had more Gabriel.

Reading Gabriel meeting Nathan for the first time was really interesting, especially how he talks about the mysterious pull he feels towards him and how he feels more magical than anyone he has ever met.

I have enjoyed the two short stories that are part of the Half Blood universe although they felt pretty weak to me. But they have done a great job of getting me very pumped to read the second book of the trilogy. Amazon is supposed to be delivering it tomorrow and I can't wait!

Review Taken From The Pewter Wolf

Half Truths takes place just after [b:Half Lies|23361016|Half Lies (The Half Bad Trilogy, #0.5)|Sally Green|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1441661730s/23361016.jpg|42916783] (so yes, this is another prequel novella in the Half Bad series) where we follow Gabriel from when he arrives in Switzerland, looking for help from the powerful Black Witch Mercury to when he meets Nathan in Half Bad (so it overlaps in a way).

Between Half Lies and Half Truths, I think I prefer Half Truths.

I'm not sure why. I don't think this novella really added anything to the series (but you never know - there was a character who I sense might pop up in [b:Half Lost|26404831|Half Lost (The Half Bad Trilogy, #3)|Sally Green|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1442094191s/26404831.jpg|40160458]), expect it gives us an insight in what Gabriel was doing before he met Nathan and it shows that he had a life before Nathan. He met people and nearly fell in love with people before Nathan. It's nice to known stuff about Gabriel that Nathan doesn't know.

Half Truths didn't really add anything to the series, I think, but it's was a nice fast read that will tie me over till Half Lost...

I really wanted to love it.. A novel about Nathan and Gabriel meeting from Gabriel's perspective. It sounded so promising..
potential spoilers :
However, in my opinion this novel was way too short. I didn't tell us much important that we didn't know already. Spoiler I wish I would have read a little more about the feelings of Gabriel instead of just mentioning he felt immediately connected. How did he feel the time they spend together in the apartment? Was he worried about Nathan when he ran off and how did he feel when he told Nathan he was a black witch in a fain body?

I did like the Jon addition to the story. But again after reading the trilogy I did already know that Gabriel was incredibly charming and also had that effect on others.

The novel was nice but had so much more potential..

Also wouldn't it be great if there was a novel about Nathan's parents?! :o

this is so short that if i wasn't so behind on my challenge i wouldn't even bother marking it as read: normally that wouldn't be an issue, but so little happened that it was a bit boring to read

anyways i probably shouldn't have expected so much from a short novella that i was only reading to remind me about the half bad universe before half lost is released

it was still good at giving a little bit of insight into how gabriel ended up meeting nathan but honestly it could have easily been included as an extra chapter in the last half bad novella (half lies i think, the one with michele) if the pointless jon pov was taken out
