This was my first book by this author, and I really enjoyed it.

I loved Erick and Bailey individually as characters and as a couple. Erick really cared for Bailey from the start and it showed in his words and, most importantly, in his actions. He knew Bailey had trauma from her past relationship and wanted to do anything he can to help her trust him and heal. Bailey, because of her trauma, was skeptical and hesitant as times with Erick. She knew she was attracted to him but was protecting herself from every getting hurt again. But she slowly realized, through Erick’s loving actions towards her, that he would not hurt her.

I also enjoyed the paranormal plot and how it developed throughout. The side characters were enjoyable as well. Overall really enjoyed this and would read the next in the series.

This book impressed me. Better than I expected. This is a romance, fantasy, and also a book about working through unimaginable trauma. There are a lot of trigger warnings, I marked most of them as graphic to be on the safe side. Most of the content warnings are from the main character's past. I felt that these issues were surviver-focused and used  to highlight the strength of the main character. Somehow, the book still felt light, despite the dark content. Sexual, physical, and emotional trauma is entwined of the make-up of this book. But so is healing.

This was a weird cross between an urban fantasy and 50 Shades of Gray with a dash of "unexplained love at first sight" thrown in for good measure. It should have left all the BDSM references/sex club out. I'm not opposed to reading that in general...it just didn't fit into the book in any way. I was not invested in the characters or in the world and very nearly didn't finish it, which is not my style.

Bailey Ross is on the run from her ex Kevin Holt who is an investigator for the SECR (Southeast Coast Republic) and no matter how many times she runs he seems to catch her and she has been running for 4 years. When it is clear that Bailey is being followed she agrees to let Erick Thorson assist her so she is able to get away.

Erick is a vampire and resides in Sanctuary, Texas. Sanctuary has become a safe place for the "others" and he promises Bailey that she will be safe there. The problem is that even Erick has estimated how far Kevin will go to make Bailey pay for leaving him.

This book is such a great introduction to Sanctuary and the series and town looks so promising! I love that so many different "others" have come to one place to reside and I am looking forward to reading more about the different characters as the series goes on.

I love Bailey's character and everything that she has gone through and how she really remains a strong person when faced with such adversity. I'm glad that she was able to trust and put faith into Erick and the town of Sanctuary.

Erick is such a caring guy and I loved how he put Bailey's needs above his own and how he would change everything for her. I love how he truly believes her love is worth more than his past-time activities! His guilt over anything that goes wrong is immense and I can't wait to read more about him and Bailey in future books!

Can't wait to read more in this series!

Good read

I received this book for free but thought it was a great start to a series. Some parts seemed a little rushed but otherwise good.

I LOVED this book. The concept was extremely intriguing and the characters were wonderful. The way the author wrote this kept you interested and not wanting to put the book down. I can’t wait to pick up the next in the series to see where things lead!
Also the BDSM aspects were super refreshing compared the the drivel most people put out these days!

This as a surprisingly good read. It started off interesting and went from there. The love was wayyyyyy to quick for me. Erick wanting to protect Bailey was understandable, but she was pledging her undying love for him by night 2. I was glad to see her abusive ex get what was coming to him and for Bailey to become powerful and defend herself. Good amount of action and I liked the sexy time.
