My Viking Vampire by Krystal Shannan – This one started a little weird. Maybe it’s because Bailey is living in a post-apocalyptic kind of world and everyone really is out to get her! But there is some really cool world building here! Happy Reading!
I'm moving to Sanctuary. Whos coming with?
Get transported to a future where paras are the norm. They live and work among us. Then take a short bus ride to Sanctuary, Texas. A small idyllic town of paras where the diner owner is an ancient Sentinel and acts almost like a Mayor, pixies run the only diner in town and protection comes in the form of twin dragons and vampires.
Shannan's world building is phenomenal. She manages to take the fantastic and impossible and make it seem almost real. With unexpected twists and turns that had my head reeling, My Viking Vampire kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I was unable to put it down and ended up reading it all in one sitting. I absolutely loved this book and can't wait to read the rest of the series.

My Viking vampire is book 1 in Krystal Shannans Sanctuary, Texas series.
Bailey is on the run from her abusive ex who has sworn would never escape him. After getting close to finding her in her most recent hiding place she makes a run for it and finds herself being tracked by a djinn. Finding temporary refuge in a bus station, the djinn closes in however, like a damsel in distress, is rescued by a tall, blonde sexy vampire saviour who offers her protection and a refuge. But is it all too good to be true? Will the past still catch up to her?
Again, I love stepping into any world that Krystal Shannan has created and this is no exception.
I love both Bailey and Erick as characters in this story. I love that Bailey has been through hell and back more then once and is still a super strong and independent character. And Erick is like the perfect mix of protective, caring, stubborn, noble , etc you could hope for. I also love the dynamic they create with each other. Pushing each other's buttons and the banter between them and the other characters is awesome as well.
I also love the idea of a town being a safe haven for all supernatural beings and that this town of Sanctuary has a sole purpose to protect themselves from a threat that gets hinted at during the story and I imagine will continue to develop through the remaining series.
I can't wait to learn more about the Lamassu, Babylon and the drakonae.
And I love that Shannan is only restricted by her imagination and already has included djinn, Lycan, vampires, sirens, pixies, dragons and many others yet to meet. Bring on book 2.

I loved the world building in this colorful tale!
MY VIKING VAMPIRE is the first book in the Sanctuary, Texas series and my first read by author, Krystal Shannon. (I actually won a signed copy of it in a contest!) This is an older man/younger woman paranormal romance (duh, it's got VIKING and VAMPIRE in the title, LOL!) that also has elements of suspense and BDSM all centered around a small town of paranormal beings. Sound intriguing??
The story jumps right into suspenseful from the beginning and maintains a pretty quick pace throughout. In a future where supernatural beings are exposed, Bailey is a human who's constantly on the run from a horrific past, an abusive ex and a scary Djinn. When she's rescued by Erick and with no where else to go, she finds herself in a small, off the map Texas town called Sanctuary. Here, Bailey meets all kinds of fantastic creatures: dragons, pixies, fairies, lycan and more!
I loved the world building in this colorful tale! I don't read TOO MUCH paranormal, though I thoroughly enjoy the genre, and maybe this doesn't sound too unique but it was definitely different and a refreshing change of pace for me. Ms. Shannon did an awesome job of creating a world that's far fetched but not so out of the realm of reality that I can't picture Sanctuary and it's saucy inhabitants in my mind!
Bailey was a heartfelt bag of contradictions. She was sweet but tough, incredibly strong but filled with fear and she didn't trust easily but she found herself trusting Erick pretty quickly. Erick was worthy of a sigh or two! He was possessive, protective and also sweet, understanding. He helped to bring out the "warrior" in Bailey and their attraction and connection was evident from the start! The secondary characters are vibrant and fun, they help to bring life to the story. It'll be interesting to read more about them.
The plot had several unexpected twists that help to build up the tension and anticipation. My only complaint, was that the final "battle" between Bailey and the Djinn felt a little rushed. I wanted more from it and thought it could have been expanded and drawn out! But overall, this was a well written, interesting take on the mystic and I'll be visiting Sanctuary again! Told almost completely from Bailey's POV with a sexy ending

I don't give out one star reviews but I'll make an exception this time. This book is crap on so many levels. Decide if you're going to write in first person or third person and STICK WITH IT. Focus a little more on your PLOT and less on the mommy porn and its possible to take an interesting idea like this one and turn it into something amazing. But that's not what happened here.
The book had a good story line. I liked the history and supernatural characters. I thought the woman, Bailey, had a good background story and she was one tough cookie but sometimes she just seemed too weak and that was confusing with her previous strength. I wanted to know what was going to happen next and that kept me turning the pages.
I am an avid Krystal Shannan fan who has read every book she has written thus far and I am yet to find one that I have not enjoyed and My Viking Vampire is no exception. At first when I saw the title I thought the story would based on Vikings and that would take place in ancient Norway. Considerably, I was in for a big surprise as there was only one Viking and the story took place in the future, 2096 to be precise. To top it off the setting was in Sanctuary Texas. It is set in a time of riots and civil unrest for which the supernatural community has been blamed. They are feared and hunted by humans. This story was not just about vampires, it also speaks about a variety of other supernatural creatures. It is evident that the author has a fascination with all things magical. My Viking Vampire is a story of love and acceptance. It deals with the subject of spousal abuse and the devastating effects it causes on the victim. It also highlights the process the victim goes through on the road to healing. All the characters are fascinating, however my overall favourite is Bailey Ross. Bailey is the female protagonist. She has been through a lot at the hands of her ex-boyfriend Kevin. She is strong and brave. She demonstrated these characteristics when she made the decision to escape the abusive situation even if it meant that she had to be constantly on the run. She is also not afraid to take chances, which is apparent when she resolved to take a total stranger’s offer to go to the Sanctuary. This is a place where supernatural’s reside. Her willingness to accept this offer would forever alter her life. Erick, the vampire whose offer Bailey accepted has appointed himself as her protector. He realized that she was in danger when he noticed that she was being stalked by a Djinn. He was determined to protect her at all cost. I loved the fact that Bailey was able to overcome the abuse and come to the relisation that not all men are the same. Her ability to do this allowed her to be able to accept all that Erik had to offer her. The story was told primarily from the Bailey’s POV, which was fine, but I was hoping for more from Erik. The story pulls you in and will keep you riveted to the end. It’s different from the usual paranormal romance and fans of the genre would enjoy this unique view into the supernatural world. This is a great start to the Sanctuary series and I can’t wait to see what next Ms. Shannan has in store for her fans. NB I received a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.
DNF at 61%. Hated how dumb the heroine was and the writing is garbage.
