This was overall an enjoyable book but it was not as strong as my last foray into the In Death series. I am not sure what it was that did not work for me well in this one. I wanted more from the side characters and I was not super invested in the case they were solving.

Yet another good book in the In Death series.  I love all the characters and the method of the murders was very unique.  I thought I had who was behind the murders pegged really early on, but I was so wrong.  It wasn't until the author made it blatantly obvious who the perpetrator was that I finally figured it out.

I continue to enjoy Dallas and Rourke's relationship and seeing Dallas open up more emotionally instead of constantly keeping up her tough cop walls.  I particularly loved the moment when Dallas way toying with Rourke about singing a duet with Mavis and after he almost bought it she bursts into laughter and exclaims that she loves him and Rourke's hit with a wave of emotion because she rarely ever says those words and especially not like that.  It was a really touching moment between the two of them.

Peabody is the best.  Period.  End of.  And I love how the narrator delivers her dialogue in that dry, witty and sometimes overly excited way.

I listened to this on audio and I continue to enjoy the narrator and how she is able to make each of the characters distinguishable and unique.

Did I cry?  No.

Interesting and dark plot for this one which I liked but there was so little resolution it was a disappointing ending.

This series is growing on me.

I think now that we're passed the initial infatuation (and wedding) between Eve and Roarke, and we have secondary characters that are being fleshed out and getting more page time, we can settle back more into both the sleuthing and the banter that characterises day-to-day life between people.

Although some of the futurism still bothers me, I'm placing the setting as being more of a Blade Runner-type world / future; and that helps with reconciling the tech (especially the flying cars).

Good pacing, and a reasonable plot make for an enjoyable read.
