A bit too fast paced for my liking, which meant I got confused at times. Amazing story though.

Persepolis, a series of autobiographical comics by Marjane Satrapi, narrates her childhood and adulthood in Iran during and after the Islamic Revolution.

This graphic novel is an example of the difficulties and processes that Iranians have had to go through. I enjoyed reading her reflection on being a woman in these times and the family relationships within it. I must admit that I have very little knowledge of Iranian history and it was exciting to learn through this.

Without a doubt, this is an outstanding book. I enjoyed it.

It's books like this that make it evermore apparent that an American "education" is incomplete at best. I didn't know 95% of the events Satrapi described, yet she presented her story in great detail, but in a way that was easy to follow and understand. She is a wonderful storyteller and provides rich details. And her artwork is both simple and evocative. I really enjoyed this graphic novel collection!

My first graphic memoir. Read for The Realm of Comics book club. I learned a lot about the Iranian or Islamic Revolution from the pov of a young Iranian girl. It's a coming of age of sorts. There's humor, joy, faith and family in this. Alongside the death, uncertainty, mysoginy, homelessness, drugs and racism. Ultimately this is a normal girl's life. And I appreciate that.

I think it was very text heavy, which in not used to in this format. And it was slow in some parts. But overall good read.
