Oooph. I could have written this book. It is so nice to feel validated and seen.

Was fine until I got to the horiffic take of "all medications are bad" and I just gave up. Interesting story with lots of useful things & helpful alternatives to modern medicine but that doesn't mean its inherently bad and its saved my life far too many times for me to put up with that.

Obviously quite dark and upsetting at times but written in a really accessible way with a lot of humour throughout. Feel like I learned a lot and definitely thought about some new ideas that (as someone who is not ill but never exactly the picture of health) make a lot of sense in the general scheme of things. Lost me a little bit in the bit with the really strong focus on ~feminine qualities~ (I get it to an extent but), but overall really informative and accessible and I'm glad I read it

Moderate: Suicidal thoughts
i got a lot of helpful info out of this book and find it motivating to look into functional medicine. AND this book went A LOT of different directions. I wish it had decided a bit better what kind of book it was. But still glad I read it. A flawed but good book.

Absolutely amazing book that everyone, especially doctors, should read.
Some of this was interesting, some of it was useful. Some of it was nonsense. And some of it was just not feasible to look to for advice or even comfort. I lost track of how many thousands she spent moving across the country and trying alternative treatments. I think the biggest takeaway is that we are desperately in need of doctors that listen with empathy.
I received this book as part of a giveaway. I am really grateful to Sarah Ramey for writing such an honest and personal memoir. It really hit home for me in a variety of ways, especially in its critique of how doctors tend to discount women's pain and the lack of funding and research going towards these types of illnesses. Strongly encourage everyone to read this book because it does an excellent job of highlighting an otherwise invisible group of women which is shocking large.

Sad, and I can think of a few WOMIs in my life. Modern medicine has really failed a lot of women. I did find this a little redundant at times. I think the author was trying to convey how endless her trauma was but it could have been more concise, 13 hours as an audiobook is a lotttt.
