O seu estatuto de clássico é mais do que merecido, mas caracteriza-se por ser muito menos pesado do que alguns dos seus contemporâneos. Não deixa de ter várias camadas e um enredo imprevisível, mas é uma opção excelente para quem procura um clássico light
I remember liking this book, though I'm short on details. It seems like the International Date Line plays some small role, and that he could have benefited from a jet engine.

Another of Vernes classics, and in the same style as the other books in his extraordinary voyages series. Is that good or bad? Well. The story is very, very, drawn-out, and it took me a long time to get through this relatively short book, because it did not hook me in very efficiently. The story has some drama, but is not really too interesting, and becomes a bit too predictable - the good Mr Fog always ends up in some troubles that threaten his time-schedule, but it is always resolved fairly quickly, and in the end it is pretty evident that he is going to make it no matter what. The twist ending where it seems that he has arrived too late, but in fact had not accounted for the day he gained on his trip around the world and so ended up winning at last minute anyways was a nice finish, but still not very unpredictable.
The characters are not presented in depth, and the mysterious enigmatic Mr Fog remains mostly unknown although we get a better idea of his inner workings as the story progresses, however only so slightly.

i'm glad i read it, it's a classic, and in the original french no less. the only thing is the very very strong colonialist overtones and the.... QUESTIONABLE descriptions resulting from that. also the story moves quite slowly. still glad i read it tho as i'm trying to get back into reading more french
