slow-paced

Duo team Nicci French impress with their thriller centering around a widow's obsession with her husband's death.

Last year, I read a Frieda Klein novel. The Frieda Klein read lyrical, slow but a thriller worth savoring. "What to Do" reads like your standard fast-paced thriller. Great for me as I felt myself slumping this last week.

I had read the whole Freida Klein series and the central
character in this standalone mystery sounds like the
same woman. But she goes a bit further at being
frustratingly ditzy, and that makes for a bad
story in my opinion. And the ending is pretty
insipid with the tidying up of the killer and
motive being more of conjecture than solution.

Slooooow start

Not too bad.

the ending was okay but the rest is just boring
the protagonist is kind of annoying and i don't like the author's writing style (with some things they are way to specific and with the important/interesting very superficial)

It was ok

The pacing of the book was far too slow for me and I felt that I wasn’t invested in the characters or their lives as much.

At one point I even forgot that the book was a murder mystery.

The last 50 pages of so was redeeming but it’s not something I would go back to.
