I am always game for a Jenny Colgan novel and when I came across this gem while visiting Magic City Books in Oklahoma I HAD TO HAVE IT! I'm so glad I bought it, but have to say it is definitely not my favorite Jenny Colgan. The main character was humorous but tough for me to relate to. And I felt that I was left wanting in the romance department. However, with this being one of Jenny Colgan's first novels that has been reprinted for the USA, I have to say it was a fun return to the 90s and how a romance could have happened then.
I loved Amanda's wedding but talking to Addison was a letdown comparatively. I'm not saying that it wasn't worth reading. its good for a one time read. but I won't be obsessing about it anytime soon.
Addison was sweet and confused. more like a child and less like a man. Holly was a bit stupid but I liked her free spiritedness . Kate and Josh were hilarious. though somehow I didn't like them ending up together. chali was cool. Finn was my very favorite character. his geekiness was adorable! right from the start it was obvious that he's the one for Holly.
so basically a good read. not great or phenomenal but okay.

Eh, she's written a lot of books that are better. It's clearly a product of it's time but has not aged well. There's a lot better stuff out there.
Def not a Prudie read. I believe every curse word in the English language was used at least once in this book.
first half was fine - second part not really what i wanted - weird and more annoying than anything.
I did not enjoy the protagonist - so was sort of difficult to stick with it - but I did...

I love Jenny Colgan but this was not one of her best. Holly moves in with her friends, Kate and Josh. With a cast of unique characters, the story gets quite silly, as Holly falls for the other flat mate, Addison, who is a computer nerd with no interest in her. Just okay.
Just eh. Would pick the bookshop books by this author instead. Just didn’t enjoy this story overall. Rather depressing and not a lot of love really apparent.
This was an older Jenny Colgan that had been retitled “my 90s romance” and it wasn’t until I had read a good portion that I realized it was the same book. The book had its moment where it was sweet and charming and then there were choppy, confusing parts where the characters were poorly fleshed out and the storyline didn’t make any sense. The novel was clearly an earlier work by the author. I’ve read some of her later novels which are much better but packaged to appear to be candy confections to be consumed on airplanes between holiday destinations. They are actually worthy of more consideration than that. This book, however, is definitely a little flat but shows the author has a great deal of potential.
Not only did this not have Jenny Colgan's usual charm, I didn't love the MC and the book had quite a bit of fatphobia in it.
Funny bits of dialog, but most of the characters were pretty horrid.
