every litfic at the mo is women finding that the kids and marriage of it all erases them. I didn't expect that based on the title and Jessica Stanley's newsletter, so guess that's on me for not reading synopses/si/se's. but truly nothing happens because everything happens - 10yrs of politics and world events breeze by. Coralie's brother could have been a great book

ALMOST A 5 STAR! Probably lost the .5 star due to lots of political talk, it was interesting for sure- but was a bit too much.

Loved this book. Will definitely be buying this one day and revisiting it.
Loved how unglamorous it was at times.

Some parts were pretty brutal.
Did not love that Coralie decided she had to live somewhere else for a little while because she couldn’t handle living in her house with her not-husband Adam and children.

One of my favourite passages:
“When she woke the next day, the connection to her writing remained dead. She made a lentil soup to take in for work lunches. She sprinkled her kitchen with bicarb soda and scrubbed until it was spotless. She took down the fan grille in her windowless bathroom and vacuumed it. She straightened her papers into piles. By mid-afternoon she was exhausted, famished and overwhelmed by a critical internal voice telling her, not incorrectly, she’d wasted her entire day. She slid her journal into a tote bag, walked down the length of the market, and ordered fish and chips at the Dove.”

Zora asking if pigs were waterproof was a highlight.

This book is being sold as some sort of RomCom, but I did not find it romantic. At various points, I was really irritated by the FMC and MMC. And you really have to know and care a lot about British politics to get this book.
