OMG this end !!! It’s heart crushing !!!!

I was surprised this ended on a cliff hanger.

Technically I finished Archangel's Prophecy last night. However I pretty much crashed after reading almost all day, so here we are. I want to say my rating is between three and four stars, and it wasn't the strong Guild Hunter book, but it kept me focused/engaged all day, so I rounded up. It had been a while since I'd read a Guild Hunter book, so I didn't remember all of the details. Fortunately this wasn't too much of a problem. Where I struggled a bit was with the prophecy; I don't think I really understood what was happening or how it "resolved." Hopefully I'll understand more after reading [b:Archangel's War|42599859|Archangel's War (Guild Hunter, #12)|Nalini Singh|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1554820060l/42599859._SY75_.jpg|66298777]. I will say the mystery (awful as it was) kept me interested, and I personally love reading about Elena's "relationship" with her father.

This is an Elena/Raphael installment in the series. As much as I enjoy the Seven and other Guild hunters, I find I like them better as supporting players and that I enjoy the E/R installments the best.

Two really good mysteries happening in this book.

Elena's vampire brother in law in attacked and left as close to dead as a vampire could be in his own home. He is only alive because the would-be killer was surprised in the act before he could finish the job. This one plays like a stone whodunnit/procedural with Elana tracking down clues, interviewing witnesses, following breadcrumbs etc.. I also liked the identity of the killer when they discover who it is. As an (almost) murder mystery it makes sense.

The other mystery is much more fraught and plays into the overarching storyline in all the Elena and Raph's segments. Elena is regressing. She's losing feathers in her wings, she is not healing fast, she's losing weight at an alarming rate, and to top it all off she keeps hearing a voice in her head, A voice of prophecy. And the prophecy ain't good. This isn;t something she can investigate, she has to wait for the truth to reveal itself. When it does she and Raph desperately try everything in their arsenal to subvert it. But fate is a stubborn bitch.

The ending was exciting as both threads -- the mundane mystery and the angelic one -- converge. And Raph's final, desperate hail mary is the very definition of ride or die.

Now we just have to wait for the next one to see what it all means.

So that happened, and now I'm just...broken

Oh boy, where to start. I love this series. I think it is fun and original and a lot of easy, pleasant reading. I was really looking forward to this installment. This review will NOT contain spoilers but if you have read this book, you will know what I am referring to

This book was a hot mess. There isn't even a nice way to say it. In comparison to every single other book in this series (10 of them), this book was a hot mess. A pointless mystery - several pointless conversations regarding this mystery - a cardboard cutout villain, just pointless; a prophecy that makes no sense even by the standards of this world where very little is "real" - the writing felt forced, as though the author started in on this idea and then couldn't get it to work and so she threw a bunch of stuff together and hoped it worked. I was very disappointed in this book - having waited what felt like forever for this book to come out - and the lack of plot or narrative in it.

I am not even sure I will continue the series after it - that is how little sense the whole thing made.

I am new to the Guild Hunter series (my fault, when I requested this book I read it is book #1 not #11) however I am hooked.

What an emotional ride. I had no idea what to expect as I dove in, as I have not read any of Nalini Singh's paranormal books. I have enjoyed her other other books that I have read thought.

It felt, to me as a new to series reader, that there were big changes on the horizon, but that could just be me.

And OMG, that ending? Woah.

I will be going back to read the previous books in the series, and am looking forward to reading more in the future.

I love this series and particularly the books that follow our main couple. It’s hard to write about anything but my anticipation for the resolution the book ending cliff hanger we were left at!
