So stupid and filled with harmful racial stereotypes and a bizarre hatred for Medicaid?? I’m sooooo confused as to why this author is so popular. I almost stopped reading after the first few mentions of random right wing talking points, but I kept going because EVERYONE sings praises about how good this author’s plot twists are, how it’s the little details in his books that matter, etc., and I honesty thought maybe this stuff was setting us up for a reveal that the protagonist was the bad guy or something… But no. The casual racism and classism had absolutely no plot relevance. So either Harlan Coben made his protagonist a racist doctor who thinks the poor are lazy people who love taking advantage of Medicaid and scamming the system for no apparent reason, or Harlan Coben is the one with those beliefs and just wanted somewhere to let them out. So yeah, this was my first and last book of his.

I thought it was well thought out, well written, kept me engaged and guessing the entire time. Even when I was sure I figured it out, the last part through me again!

First Coben book that I've read. It's really good - fast paced, with lots of twists and turns and snappy dialogs. The mystery was compelling, intricate and to me totally unpredictable.
It's just that once you start reading Harlan Cobens books you notice the pattern; and then the whole surprise element is gone.
Still on it's own this book was great, actually it'd been turned into a movie.
