I read this book in college and I remember liking it quite a bit. I even bought two more of Coben's books, but then I never got around to reading them. He writes a lot like Turow, but its not a law thriller, just a regular one about a guy whose wife is kidnapped.
I choose Harlan Coben when I want an engaging plot with a lot of twists. I rarely know where the story will end up, and he tends to throw a few red herrings in, which I like. That being said, his books are purely brain candy for me. I can finish them within a couple of hours, but I very much enjoy them.
They are great if that's what you're looking for.

When I read a Harlan Coben novel, I feel like I am in a car driving down Pike's Peak at night without lights at 60 mph. I don't look up to see how much I have left in the book. I focus solely on what he is putting his characters through, and he is often brutally cruel to his protagonist. This time was no different.
I am so glad that I picked this up at the library when I did. I have been putting this read off, and I'm not quite sure why. But, nonetheless, I absolutely loved this book. I was constantly wondering what was actually happening. Being confused for a majority of the book was one reason why I gave it four stars. There was a bunch of different P.O.V.s and when it switched back to Beck's P.O.V. I was a little confused of what was happening, and then I had to reread some parts over a few times. Although I did like the changing P.O.V.s, it was a little too much at times.
Of course I love that there were so many twists and turns in the plot up until the very last page. I love the way Coben writes and is constantly keeping his readers guessing and wanting more. I will say that this is my second favorite book of his following Six Years. I am excited to see what new things Coben brings when I read Live Wire and then eventually the Mickey Bolitar series.

This is the book that got me hooked on Harlan Coben. It, just like his other novels, pulls in you in right from the first page. A great mystery/thriller!

All seemed very contrived and not genuine. All felt like it was trying too hard to be hip, progressive, funny, cute, etc. Plus, I, of course, found out way too late that I had accidentally picked up an abridgement from the library again-dammit! I could tell to some extent-this was confusing in spots and didn't flow well. Or kind of flowed too well-it was hard to separate people and scenes. One of the major problems that fed into that was:
Switching between first person narrative and 3rd person for everyone else in the novel. It drove me up the wall and was confusing. One way or the other people, choose. Multiple first person voices, all one person, or all 3rd person. Unless it's such an amazing book and writer that it can be overlooked. This was not.

I enjoyed the plot of the book and really enjoyed how it kept me interested in the entire book. I was a little disappointed with the end, I feel like I wanted a better ending with how thoughtful the build-up was. It was a letdown for me that everything ended "happily ever after," and I wanted a little more tension or a bigger twist at the end.
