Is there a rating higher than 5 stars? Is a book that was made FOR a movie supposed to be better than the film?!?! If not better Rogue Ones novelization easily rivals the film. Alexander Freed adds the depth to the characters that I craved. I had already made the assumption that they had deeper darker sides to them. Such as Cassians inner turmoil and Freed finally delivered to me, and proved me right. The depth will make my next viewing of the film all The more emotional. I specifically felt closer to two characters. Baze and Bodhi. Baze Malbus has few lines in the film and in the novel is expanded a lot more. He is devoted to Chirrut as zealously as Chirrut is to the force and learning more about Baze and his character was very interesting, but Bodhi was the best. Bodhi of course didn't seem confident in the film but this is taken to a whole new level in the novel. It is clear how uneasy and nervous he constantly is and how he struggles with his decisions and his choices and reveals how he got roped into everything in the first place, he is such an innocent young man in my opinion and the galaxy swept him up and away before he got his chance to fully shine.

Overall this novelization is superbly written even down to the lingo. Such as Krennic referring to Vaders force abilities as sorcery like an officer in A New Hope did(prior to him being choked) and it stands miles above The Force Awakens Novelization.

Alexander Freed has now set the bar for Novelizations of the upcoming Star Wars movies. Will anyone be able to top this? I suppose we will all have to impatiently await and see.

I love jyn! She has a speech at 280 and it brought a tear to my eye. I didn’t think i would enjoy this book and find it to hard to follow and what not but it was simple enough to read. Everyone should read it!!

I loved this book. Granted, I loved Rogue One when I saw it in theaters so my expectations were pretty high for this book. I am glad to say they did not fail. Where most novelizations are just a slightly more fleshed out version of the movie script, this book could be read without seeing Rogue One and enjoyed thoroughly on it's own merits.

Jyn, for one, is a more fully fleshed out character in this book. In the movie we really don't get to see a lot of what makes her tick. Yes, we see the scenes of her as a little girl but it doesn't really dive into who Jyn Erso is. This book does that and does it well. It takes characters and gives them depth. You are along with Chirrup and Baze and Cassian and Bodhi as they each struggle with their missions.

I also have to say, the death scenes, god they were so good. There are a few characters who come upon the pages but you feel for them when they die. Freed does an excellent job getting into their heads in the last moments of they lives. I honestly can't remember a time I almost cried for an extra in a book but this book made me teary at the scenes on Jedha.

Excellent book. Good read.

This was good, one of the better novelizations that I have read. It doesn't add too much to the story that you see in Rogue One, although it is nice to get inside the characters heads for a while. It also helped with all my Jyn and Cassian feels, although I am still not satisfied. It also just solidified my belief that Chirrut & Baze are a couple, and I love them. I wish there was a chance for a sequel to the film, I wasn't ready to say goodbye to such great characters.

Rogue One is my favorite Star Wars movie, so I really appreciate the insight the novelization brought, showing internal thoughts and explaining better the inworking of the Rebellion. The ending in particular was really well done, translating the dramatic sad scenes from screen to page beautifully.

That being said, for the most part it's pretty much a perfect retelling of the movie, and I feel it doesn't add as much as other novelizations.
