⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
just as devastating as the movie, in case anyone was wondering.
I read this for a combination of reasons: may the fourth, because I'd just watched the movie, and had just watched Andor (go watch it, it's so good).  I liked the depth into Jyn and Bhodi's characters-- I think the book did a better job of explaining them than the movie did.  I think I got more out of Jyn's "it's not a problem if you don't look up" to "rebellions are built on hope" shift from the book, and Bodhi's motivation from Galen showed more to his character than just the nervous pilot with fifteen minutes of screen time.  Plus getting his perspective on Bor Gullet was interesting, since we don't really see anything other than "he's disoriented" in the movie.  Babes, he was tortured
Also love that Jyn literally has no idea who Krennic is.  She really said "you ruined my life but you're a fascist idc"  Big Syril Karn and Cassian Andor energy.
still don't like Saw Gerrera ✌

Overall solid novelization of the movie. I like that we spend some time getting into all the characters' heads, especially Mon Mothma. She doesn't have a ton of scenes in the book, but enough to give us a better sense of who she is and why she's the leader of the rebellion. Freed uses the cave Jyn hides in as a metaphor throughout the book, and I think it works really well as a device for getting inside her head. I would have liked a bit more about Cassian, but hopefully he gets a standalone novel or comic series in the near future. Definitely worth a read, and the audiobook is beautifully produced and well-executed.

I already enjoyed the Rogue One movie so I was fairly sure I was going to enjoy the novelization.

My biggest issue going into this book was Alexander Freed. I wasn’t a huge fan of his previous Star Wars book Battlefront: Twilight Company but I am happy to say his novelization for Rogue One was incredibly well done.

This does everything I expect a novelization to do in that it tells the main plot of the film but also adds little elements and insights to enrich an already fantastic story.

A stand out here is the additional depth given to Bodhi Rook. I enjoyed the character well enough in the film but this book added more insights into his actions and motivations and made me appreciate his contributions more than I already did.

literally destroyed me. i spent half the book clutching my chest and crying in agony. 5 fucking stars

Basicly a 1:1 adaptation of the movie with inner thoughts of characters. Especially K2 and Bodhi get a lot of depth. Also there is some nice rebel lore. But unlike the Episode 3 novel, I would say it's not a must read.

The background ambience of the audiobook made me a little nuts but otherwise this is still a favorite, and the metaphor of Jyn’s memories and traumas being the cave from Lamuh may be overdone to hell but whatever, I just love this book and these characters and THIS particular story

I absolutely LOVED this book! It was so well-written; I'm still gob smacked and I finished it 14 hours ago. I love how it expanded so much on Jyn and Cassian; you get to know them so well, and as an all time Cassian fan, of course I loved it. Specifically, the way Freed wrote the cave in Jyn's mind sealed by a hatch is just so pretty.

I started this book after not watching the movie in four years, wishing to be pleasantly surprised. (and I recently finished Andor and am now obsessed)  I was surprised by the plot, and how well-done it was. I was also pleasantly surprised with how well the flow of the story goes and was reminded that however excellent movies are, books can tell a part of the story that movies cannot. The way you really get inside the character's heads; not even just the protagonists, but the antagonists as well, was just so beautiful and it made the story much more emotional. If you're a Star Wars/Andor fan, I highly recommend it.
