How did the written version hurt more than the movie version?

Even better than the movie. You really fall in love with Jyn and you are able to feel further for Cassian and the multitude of other characters.

This was a perfectly fine novelization of a movie I love very much, though, loving Rogue One as I do, I did find some character beats/descriptions off, particularly pertaining to Jyn and Cassian. I do think Alexander Freed's characterization of Bodhi was spot-on, however, and liked his POV chapters best.

Ultimately, if I'm going to recommend a Rogue One novel, it'll continue to be Catalyst. For this book, I say watch the movie.

Pretty solid novelization. The memos (especially the one showing exactly how Galen got that exhaust port installed) were my favorite part.

Hands down, the best Star Wars novel I've read to date...this would have been great even without the movie. It's rare for me to read a book after seeing a movie it is based on, but I have a tradition of doing that with Star Wars movies/novelizations Freed succeeds tremendously by very strong characterization, and bringing the screenplay plot to life in novel form with immense tension. If you have read any SW novels over the years, this one is a must for your library.
