I honestly enjoyed this way more than I thought I would. The production on this particular edition was very good as well - the full cast, sound effects, it was so theatrical. It was a genuinely enjoyable piece of classic literature

Amazing as usual. If you can give it to anybody under 12 years you're changing someone's life.

Other than the expected overt racism, this was an entertaining read with some absolutely riveting passages.

The moral of the story seems to be that if you're very, very rich, and spend all of your money in the process but "rescue" a woman on the way, even if you've lost your entire fortune, it was worth it. Not very deep. The characters were fairly flat and stereotypical and there was very little interaction among them, so the novelty of this novel when it came out must have been getting to "see the world" when you couldn't, which I guess was not a bad reason to read a book in 1872. The most developed relationship is between Passepartout and Fix, which is not what I expected. I preferred the plot of [b:Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea|33507|Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea|Jules Verne|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1494979127l/33507._SX50_.jpg|1112418], even though the prose was drier.

This was the first book by Jules Verne I’ve ever read, and it completely blew me away. His writing is so straightforward and to the point, which I really appreciated. He doesn’t waste time, but somehow every scene is still so vivid and full of life.

The characters are a big part of what makes this book so special. They’re all so charming and complement each other perfectly. Phileas Fogg is calm and methodical, while Passepartout brings humor and energy, and together they make such a memorable duo. Even the supporting characters add so much to the story.

What I loved most was how Verne plays with the concept of time throughout the book. It’s written in a way that keeps you on edge, and the race against the clock makes every chapter feel so exciting. You really feel the pressure building as the journey goes on.

And the ending! Those last ten chapters were some of the best writing I’ve ever read. The twists, the tension, the emotions. I could feel every bit of it. It was so powerful and completely unforgettable.

This book is a perfect mix of drama, comedy, and action. It’s such a thrilling, exhilarating story from start to finish. Simply incredible!
