I read an adaptation of this book when I was a child. I have also seen a few of the movies and TV productions based on it, so I have previously enjoyed the general premise of the story. A coworker wanted to listen to the audiobook, so I listened along with her. However, I learned that, as is often the case, the book is quite different from my previous encounters with the story.

In this story, a mysteriously rich, Englishman, Phileas Fogg, takes his Reform Club friends up on a wager to travel around the world in 80 days. Fogg takes on a servant, Frenchman Passepartout and enlists him for the journey as well. The journey is interrupted, though, by Inspector Fix from Enlgand who suspects Fogg of bank robbery.

While there is a great bit of adventure in the book, I have to say that I did get bored a couple of times. In the end, though, this turned out to be a great story of loyalty, adventure, humor, mistaken identity, humane reactions to difficult situations, and even love. The ending more than made up for any moments of brief boredom.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who has not read it, as it is a classic and readily available for free.

I didn't dislike this piece but it was evidently written for a different era, I was not fond of the writing style, however, it did have merit and I understand how it has been a favourite and classic piece. This novel was not my cup of tea personally but I will not reproach anyone wishing to read it, it's certainly interesting and doesn't take long.

Simple read that’s genuinely fun to follow along.

It’s easy to understand why so much literature & media would go on to draw inspiration from this charming journey over a century later.

Carpe Diem, the book!

I don't usually re-read books, so I am not really sure why I revisited this one when I came across it. But, boy am I glad I did! I was a teenager and the book was in Russian the first time around. I don't remember having enjoyed it so thoroughly as this time. What a treasure!

I have read some reviews after I finished mine and was stunned to read that people had deemed the story slow-moving and boring. I thought it very fast-paced and entertaining!
