Funny with today's technology to reflect that this story at it's time was such a long shot; to travel the world in 80 days was something unheard of and impossible. Nearer to the beginning I had hesitations that this story would move to slowly and squander my interest, but was pleasantly surprised by the almost "catch me if you can" storyline at play and the final morals of the conclusion. I did appreciate the disclaimer at the end, outlining Verne wrote with a broad brush, with bias of his background and time.

Absolutely a blast! Despite knowing the end from pop culture writ large, I still found myself eager to know if Fogg would make it after all.

Props to Jules for his adventure writing. This was surprisingly tense for great stretches, and I thoroughly enjoyed Passepartout as Phileas Fogg's baffled but dedicated valet, doing his best to help his master make his trek. Also an underwhelming story, though, as nearly every obstacle Fogg runs up against can be solved by throwing money at it, and he of course occupies the role of the English gentleman with all the perks (British Empire) that come with it as he traverses the globe. The pace is also derailed by the occasional school lesson. The lecture on Mormonism was especially odd.
