This book was lovely and I can't believe it took me until my late twenties to read it. I enjoyed the narration in the car because I think that I may have skipped over parts if I was reading the book. All I kept thinking was how Benedict Cumberbatch should be Phileas Fogg and they should make a movie of it!

A delightful book for sure, and far more entertaining than Journey to the Center of the Earth, ATWI80D is fun in the ridiculous ways Phileas Fogg and Passepartout fall into there random side quests. There are many chapters that merely list conveyances and points of interest…and that was excruciatingly dull. But elephant-riding into a rescue of a human sacrifice? Full-blown diatribe about mormonism? Racing a train across a collapsing bridge? I was actually excited about it. For certain, there are some racist situations that pop up (calling the Sioux “angry little monkeys” for example)…but I couldn’t help but smile as Verne gave Americans a little jibe every chance he could.
