Blazed through it in like three hours. Wild ridiculous adventures with fun characters and a ticking deadline that kept me fascinated. When I actually said “oh no” out loud upon reading that they had missed their ship by 45 minutes, I knew I was deeply invested.
It’s a bit dated in references sometimes due to its age, but I still found it terrifically fun.
I’ve never read it before and yet….I wonder if I actually have read it before, it felt so familiar. I’m sure I haven’t seen any of the popular adaptations. Maybe I had read it once upon a time ago….or maybe it’s so tangled in pop culture you couldn’t not know the beats if you tried.
Either way, I loved every moment, and I cheered at the end with the rest of them. Lots of high emotions during my read time, well deserving every star!

This was my 136th book finished in 2025.
This was my second exposure to Verne, and I was just so... Underwhelmed! So I read Michael Palin's book of the same name before this, and it's definitely more fun. Obviously you can't really compare them, but I just expected a bit more from the original.
I suppose it's a snapshot of the world in the 1870s, but it's just terribly dated now.
Verne is very bad at writing likeable characters. Fogg is a pompous ass, honestly. The end was kind of sweet, I'll admit.
