Holly definitely dishes ALL the dirt! This is a juicy read. It's not surprising to learn that sex with Hef was gross and some of the girls are bitchy, but it is kind of surprising that she put it all out there.

Interesting but not necessarily compelling…. Holly speaks about her experience being involved in all things Playboy. Kind of rubbed me wrong how she still bad louths her previous costar Kendra. I feel like years post Playboy they would’ve reconciled.

I'm starting to think that fully reviewing memoirs is kinda silly, because ultimately they're quite subjective by nature. Plus, reviewing someone's experiences feels wrong on many levels.
But, I really did enjoy this. Madison is a pretty good writer, and throughout this book she's super honest. I feel sad for her for all the things she endured, but glad she's made it to the other side.

I do not know what compelled me to pick this up, I know almost nothing about Holly Madison or her tv series and I've not read anything like this before. More than a tell-all about Playboy, this felt like a journey in gaining the strength to leave a toxic environment, something that is challenging for a lot of us. I will say there is a lot of shade thrown at other women in this book, but at least Holly acknowledged that competition between her fellow "playmates" had more to do with feelings of inadequacy and the low self-esteem that Hef, and frankly society, fed on to create conflict and keep control. Does she have privilege? Absolutely. Does this book get annoying and tone-deaf at times? For sure. Was it an interesting read? It was, and I am glad for anyone who makes the scary choice to leave bad situations in pursuit of a better future. Get it, girl.

Good book. Drags in parts but comes across as genuine.
The girls next door is the first reality show I ever watched. I hate reality shows now. Back then, I found TGND to be an okay diversion. I read this book because I had a mild curiosity about the playboy mansion. The whole playboy operation seems like such a sleazy throwback to another time. I've always been surprised that it still exists. I believe most of what Holly says about the mansion and it's occupants. I don't understand what draws girls to that sort of lifestyle. Holly didn't help me understand it.
