The Throne of Glass series has, thankfully, completely morphed into a very different being from [b:Throne of Glass|7896527|Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass, #1)|Sarah J. Maas|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1335819760s/7896527.jpg|11138426], and although [b:Crown of Midnight|17167166|Crown of Midnight (Throne of Glass, #2)|Sarah J. Maas|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1391580481s/17167166.jpg|21581860] was meant to be an interim book the writing and characters have evolved so much it's almost unrecognisable. If you read Throne of Glass for the romance and the light-hearted take on a teenage assassin then you won't like this book at all, but if you were like me and were so frustrated by ToG and what Maas made of a girl assassin then Heir of Fire will redeem the series for you.
Celaena is no longer a girl, but a woman. She has come into her own and grown, accepting her flaws and mistakes. She is no longer a coward.

I can finally understand the hype about these books. The first book, Throne of Glass had me a bit intrigued about Celaena but I honestly didn't find the book to be that good. After Crown of Midnight, I was even more sceptical about the third one but holy shit. I was so wrong.
When I first began reading it I was a bit sceptical to the plot because I wasn't very keen on it from the beginning, it just seemed to be the typical "new hero learns of new power and goes off to save the world" kind of book, though I don't really know what I was expecting when I first read the books. Since there are five books in the series (what I know off) I felt like "oh dear" and it was one of these "oh dear, that's terrible" and not one of those "oh dear, that is so cool" because a trilogy is a good number for me. Five books are a bit too much, I was just dreading it to be like The Mortal Instruments (Clare, Cassandra) with its six books. And I got a bit tired after the three books. Then I read a bit of it and my fears were true, it was a bit slow. The plot itself felt like it wasn't going forward very much. It was like Celaena (and the other characters) were walking around on the same spot for at least 500 pages. Then the last 60 pages things started to happen and I could feel the plot starting walking forward again.
As it comes to Celaena I think she is a complete badass, cause I mean, she is an assassin, how cool isn't that? I don't have a soft spot for her though, I mean, I do like her as a character but I couldn't see myself growing attached to her. There are very few characters that I can grow a heart for and it usually takes until the last book or like the last sentence for me to actually let them into my heart, and entirely letting them walk over my heart in 10 centimetres heels. It just takes a lot for me to do that. But already at the third book, and Celaena has started to - I want to say climb but I don't think that's the right word - charge is a better word I think. Celaena has started to charge her way into my body and I do really like her. About half of the book I felt really sad for her and I wanted to pity her and you know, give her a pat on the head but at the same time, she's an assassin, she doesn't need that because she can walk through hell and still come back smiling. What I liked most about this book was Celaena's development as a person, I don't to spoil too much but I just really liked to read that because she seems like such an interesting person.
What about Dorian and Chaol? Are they still alive? Perhaps, perhaps not. Read the book if you haven't and stop checking things up online, I've been there you know. When watching anime that is was I do every single time - but that's another story. The other characters I got to follow wasn't nearly as interesting as Celaena, I wanted to skip them so bad but I forced my way to read through it all. Though I did enjoy another character's perspective as well, that one was quite interesting cause they were being so wicked that I enjoyed it. It felt like the other perspectives were the same as the plot, not moving forward and I just couldn't help but feel like this book were more of a character development book. And I'm not much for those cause I tend to find them slow and boring, but this one was an exception tho.
This is a YA book so there are of course romance in it, I am not a big fan of it. I can think of it nice sometimes if it goes well with the story. I didn't like the romance in ToG and CoM because I just couldn't help myself but to think of them as friends. In this book, I didn't like the romance either, maybe because it just felt so quick and hurriedly. Still, there is a relationship I'm predicting will turn out to be serious - okay, I did google it. But that was like months ago so yea, yea. But I do like the friend-not-really-friends-but-yea-yea-relationship.
Out of these three first books, I've read in this series Hier of Fire is definitely my favourite. I think that when I start reading Queen of Shadows things will really start to change, and Celaena will bring hell with her to later raise heaven.

Okay for not too much to have happened, a lot did happen in this. That sounds silly, but this book was all about building upon small details, character development, world building to pave the path for something bigger.
For a long while, you have to suffer through Celaena’s self loathing. It’s not fun and I was over it but I also understand the repetition really drills in how she feels about herself. When she finally breaks away from it, it is so sweet.
I loved all the new characters and the various storylines woven throughout, and all tying together in the timeline. It’s going to be insane when everything comes to a head.
I cannot believe the ending with Dorian! Literally stunned. Dorian deserves all good things to come upon him. He is a fierce friend, loyal lover, and believes in the betterment of the world. He is too good for the lot of them.
And what of Rowan and Aelin? Are there romantics going on between them?! I can feel it. I want it to happen. It needs to happen. Please tell me it happens
