Not scary by today's standards, if you pick it up you need to put yourself in Stoker's day to want to keep reading.

Dracula is one of those books that I've wanted to read for years. Unfortunately, I often aspire to read many classics but, in the end, find myself bored by them. That is what happened when I sat down anda attempted to read my hardback copy of Dracula. I tried many times to get into the story but just couldn't do it.

When the L.A. Theatre Works's version popped up in my local library's weekly feature, I thought 'why not give it a try?'. And so I did. Listening to a full cast put on the theatrical version of this story definitely made for a fun and interesting read. Though I'm still not a huge fan of Stoker's original story, listening to this version, though abridged, was a lot nicer for me.

Good, but it doesn’t half go on. Did they not have editors in the nineteenth century?

i should’ve not take so long to read this masterpiece. Gothic literature in general always surprised myself.

I am surprised how much Ienjoyed this, though some part was definitely owing to the great full-cast audiobook version. (The lady narrating Mina had some strange ideas about imitating Dutch & Hungarian accents. Both of them sounded the same and nothing like D or HU for sure, lol. But it's beside the point.)

The good thing was that while I can imagine that Victorian readers may have found the book scary, I only found it interesting and got really absorbed in it - no palpitating heart, heaving bosom, ready to scream. And I am the first to admit that I am a total ninny and possess the faintest of hearts when it comes to the horror genre (no Stephen King for me, thank you very much).

Okay

Dracula was the first classic I ever read and to see it be in Kindle Motion was awesome. The illustrations were magnificent

A great cast reads this classic novel. My favorite narrator was Alan Cummings as Dr.John Seward. Perfect for October, and Halloween. I am now interested in learning more about the origins of vampire myths and the evolution of vampire novels, though, in general, I am not a fan of the genre.

After reading Joseph O'Connor's [b:Shadowplay|41723505|Shadowplay|Joseph O'Connor|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1546223576l/41723505._SY75_.jpg|65090784], I decided to re-listen to this excellent audiobook with multiple narrators. Stoker's novel is an example of amazing Victorian gothic literature. Many readers do not realize that Stoker was Irish - born and bred in Dublin. This book was not a success in his lifetime, but continues to be a classic horror novel.

i normally don't like reviewing books that i have to read for class because i wouldn't normally willingly choose to read them. But Dracula is on the same level as Frankenstein, Sense and Sensibility, and The Great Gatsby which is really high. i couldn't get enough of this book, and it is one of my all time favorites. i'm so glad i got to enjoy this now rather than in high school.
