This short novel is a very beautiful prosaical encapsulation of what a moment means, what series of moments mean accumulatively to a lifetime. With a somewhat confusing structure, the reader is somehow simultaneously pulled in and out of the moment. Sensuous and intrinsically perceptive. Pondering and consoling, reflective and wonder-full.

Faultless. Absolutely faultless. I listened on Audible in one session. It's short but I wouldn't criticise it for that. A wonderful book

This short little book is so beautifully English. Not much happens, but what does happen is so quiet and composed and saying so much more than it seems to. The events of single morning, yet a whole life's story. The story of a short love affair, yet a character's life from start to end.

This is an odd little book. I felt like I was reading a jumbled, mishmash of an old lady’s journal instead of an actual story line.
