I like the Serge books, I really do, but... I always come away from them a little disappointed. My impression is that they want to be Carl Hiassen really badly, but don't quite get there. Coming off this one, my immediate thought is that this was a book that needed a plot. You get a lot of fun hijinks from Serge as he punishes various Florida conmen and assholes, you get a side(back)story about a young girl wanting to play football, and another side story about a criminal boat captain, and the thing is, these different storylines don't hook up until about the last 30 minutes of this 11 hour audiobook. The result is that there really is no driving narrative - There's no reason to keep reading because it's just Serge rambling around Florida getting into humorous trouble. That's fun on its own and I did enjoy the book, but after a while you get the impression that the author is just venting his frustrations on the scumbags of Florida rather than actually putting forth a connected tale.

Sooo... Fun and entertaining and not boring, but not really a standout novel, at least to me.

Picked this up as I was in the mood for some humorous fiction and this definitely fit the bill. Until I came to Goodreads to log it I had no idea it was part of a series, number 23, in fact! However, I feel it stood completely on its own. I came with no knowledge of the characters and it didn’t matter as they were well presented. Now that I know there are others in this series I have to get them. I had several moments while reading that I quite literally laughed out loud. This book was exactly the sort of humorous read I was looking for.

Came into this unprepared having never read any of the other Serge Storm books. This book was wild. Love the setting and the Florida history facts, some of which I hope to follow up on. Some of Serge's rants lost me a little but not enough to stop me from moving forward. By the end, I was satisfied with the story and will consider going back to read some of Serge's other adventures.

Overall a wild ride, as promised by the title and the setting, and a solid 3 stars.

It's the first book I read by this author and won't surely be the last.
I found it weird and highly entertaining at the same time.
The people, the places, the well thought characters make this book an enjoyable read that I highly recommend.
Many thanks to the publisher and Edelweiss for this ARC, all opinions are mine.

I won this book in Goodreads giveaway and this is my honest review.

To be honest, I almost gave up on the book early on, but I kept reading and in the end it was enjoyable. It's written very well, just something missing, that I can't put my finger on. The best parts were the back stories, and the end was quite good.

Had no idea this was part of a series. A blend of history, Florida facts, vigilante-ism, and friendships that strung me along. Memorable characters put this one at 4.5— the 2020 zeitgeist elements and respect paid to black history bumped it to 5.
