I loved the 4 different perspectives from each of the women. It was peak girlhood/womanhood and somehow felt cosy despite some of the subject matters discussed.

I really fell in love with these women and their relationships to each other. I liked how you got to see the same interactions through each of their own eyes at times, which allowed me to feel as if they were real people and I could understand them deeply.

It just fell short of 5 stars for me as I feel like there could’ve been a bit more depth to Wonna, and I wish there had been a more narrative/descriptive ending for Miho.

4.5 maybe! i honestly didn't think i'd like this book as much as i did :) i think that the characters are all very... human and real in how they act or feel about themselves and others. for that reason, i found myself caring for the characters more than i thought i would (even though i didn't always like or agree with them). ultimately, i'm a sucker for found family/meaningful friendships so i really loved how they cared for each other, especially sujin

I was absolutely absorbed by this book while filling the lives of four (five with Sijun never getting her own narration) women in seoul. Three of them grew up on an orphanage together and hold such a tight bond of loyalty and hidden protective acts for each other. Sujin out for Miho and encouraging the orphanage to apply for an art scholarship for her. Everyone deeply understanding Ara’s interest and reading her body language to speak for her. Kyuri’s affection towards Sujins dreams to enter the dangerous and money-sucking world of korean room salons. This book touched on so many themes - beauty standards and the climb to make money for plastic surgery at top clinics, expensive brand stores and restaurants and how they play into rich hierarchy and reputation, Miho’s dark contemporary art motifs acting as therapy, Kyuri’s feelings for a room salon client that takes a terrible turn when she risks everything to see his wife and family from across a restaurant, the family pressure to marry and have kids. The thing i loved most was that this book centered their female experiences and modern day women’s pay gap struggles!!!
