Very powerful and emotional. Best read in small chunks (an essay at a time) and not when sleepy. Lorde’s words are so important and distressingly still relevant decades after they were written. One to come back to. Especially enjoyed the conversation with Adrienne Rich and poems Love poem and Outlines.

This is such a beautiful and powerful collection of essays and selection of poetry from Audre Lorde’s rich and full life of work.

I learned a lot about the identity she held of ‘Black lesbian feminist’ and how those identities intersect, motherhood, white feminism, and institutional racism.

Because Lorde was a poet, her essays read the same way, and while you know you are learning, you are also feeling deeply because it is clear she felt those words deeply too.

Her poetry is wonderful. I could not have taken everything from it that is possible so I’m looking forward to revisiting her words.

I would recommend this to everyone who wants to feel and learn at the same time.
