With her engagement in her rearview mirror, Catherine focuses on her job and landing a huge client. But before the meeting happens her friends take her out for an impromptu celebration of her single status, and with a few drinks in Catherine ends up in the lap of a sexy man who instantly has her heart racing. The last thing she ever expected was that the same man would be the CEO of the company she is trying to snag and the same man that she will need to work side by side with once she lands the deal. Can Catherine and Jackson keep everything professional? Or will the spark they felt at the bar be too much to overcome? With an interesting storyline and a great cast of characters this was a great start. The storyline ends with a cliffhanger and I am so glad I had the next book already lined up in my kindle.

I have a weakness for men wearing a sharp suit. Add ex-SEAL to the mix and there you have it; my perfect book boyfriend. I knew Jackson Cole would be added to my exclusive list before reading Beloved. Catherine is a heroine we can all identify with. All the ingredients for a 5 star read.
Catherine is a woman who's life is scarred by the men in her life walking out on her. Heartbroken and dealing with her resulting abandonment issues, she throws herself into becoming the top of her profession. What she didn't expect was to land a contract with a Raven Cosmetics, who's CEO was a man she literally fell for.
Jackson is the honorable ex-SEAL turned successful business man who is plagued by guilt issues. He's swore off women, but is taken by surprise when a beautiful woman literally lands in his lap one evening. Even more surprising when the same woman turns out to be the publicist he's hired for his cosmetic company.
When their worlds collide Catherine and Jackson have instant chemistry and when they are together they sizzle! They are meant to be together but both are dealing with emotional baggage which in turn throws their relationship into turmoil. Catherine doesn't want to commit to a relationship because all the men she has ever loved end up leaving her. Jackson wants to keep Catherine close, but he carries the weight of guilt on his shoulders for the deaths of close ones and doesn't want to put Catherine at risk of the same fate. This is a fabulous debut by Ms Michaels. Beloved is the kind of book you just don't want to end, so the cliffhanger is a huge positive for me because I'm not ready to let go of Catherine and Jackson yet. Beholden, I am patiently waiting for you.

Oh my, the angst and the emotion. Jackson is tortured by loss and Catherine is tortured by heartbreak and people walking out on her. There is so much emotion in the book, so much angst. They have so much love but have so much fear. I wanted to scream at cat at one point and scream at Jackson at another point while pleading for them to not give up on each other. Be aware this is not a stand alone book. But it is sooooo worth it.

Poczułam ulgę, kiedy dowiedziałam się, że to debiut Michaels.

Gdyby „Beloved” ukazało się na polskim rynku wydawniczym jako pierwsza powieść Michaels, nie zawracałabym sobie głowy jej kolejnymi propozycjami. Z drugiej strony ulgę przyniósł mi fakt, że tak naprawdę jest to debiut autorki – można spojrzeć na nią trochę łaskawszym wzrokiem. Nie zmienia to jednak stanu rzeczy – historia Catherine i Jacksona wywoływała we mnie w zdecydowanej większości jęki zażenowania. Wciąż musiałam brać głęboki oddech, bo nie mieściło mi się w głowie, że Michaels do bólu podąża za schematami i nawet nie jest w stanie zakryć tego przemyśleniami bohaterów. Fakt, że poprzednie jej książki wydane na polskim rynku również czerpały ze znanych już rozwiązań fabularnych, jest dość istotny, ale w tamtych przypadkach cała historia broniła się stylem, opisami – całość była w stanie wzbudzić emocje – ale nie te związane z irytacją i chęcią wyrzucenia książki przez okno (lub do rzeki) jak tutaj.
Główna bohaterka – Catherine – nie potrafi sprzeciwić się facetowi, jest mu uległa, nawet jeśli twierdzi, że czegoś nie chce. Dodatkowo wciąż zaprzecza swoim słowom, jest niewyobrażalnie irytującą postacią – podobnie jak sam Jackson, który kobiece „nie” bierze za „tak”. Ich pierwsze spotkanie poprzedzone zostało jakże fascynującym opisem, jak Cat wyobraża sobie mężczyznę, którego śmiech słyszy z pewnej odległości. Uwierzcie mi, ilość idealizacji i do bólu znajomych fraz potrafiła przytłoczyć. Nie ma tu miejsca na bohaterów nieidealnych – czułam, że wpychany jest im na siłę perfekcjonizm, nawet jeśli coś było nie tak według fabuły.
Nie jest mi łatwo pisać bez przerwy w jednym tonie o tej pozycji, ale – oprócz jednego plusa – nie mogę znaleźć tu wiele więcej. A więc: ta książka się przynajmniej skończyła, a ja znam chociaż tę lepszą część twórczości Michaels (cieszy to, że poziom nie uległ stagnacji!). Martwi mnie jednak jeszcze liczba literówek czy błędów (brakujące słowa w zdaniu, nieodmienione wyrazy w stosunku do rzeczowników), które pojawiają się co kilka stron – mam wrażenie, że w procesie korekty bądź redakcji polskiego wydania coś musiało pójść nie tak. Błędy się zdarzają – to nie jest w żaden sposób przytyk do wydawnictwa, jednakże tutaj była ich zatrważająca ilość (odczuwałam dyskomfort podczas czytania przez połączenie jakości historii oraz pomyłek w tekście). Czy polecam? Moje doświadczenie krzyczy, byście nie zawracali sobie głowy, ale jeśli macie ochotę – czytajcie i przekonajcie się sami!

WOW, Andi did a phenomenal audio job with this book.
I’m no stranger to Corinne’s work, she has ripped my heart to pieces before and she nearly did it again with this book.

racism really?
I honestly was loving the book this book would have been a four star read a least. But of course the last 10 pages there’s a slur for Muslims. I don’t fuck with that. Like what and trust me as a girl from a small white town with a lot people in the military i know it’s said and I’ve heard all the devils advocate speech of why they are used. I don’t care. It’s not okay and it’ll never been okay.

Horrible MC
Cat is one of the worst MCs I've ever read. She was incredibly weak, stubborn, and annoying. I honestly could not find a single redeeming quality. She had virtually zero personality. The story is decent though, so I'll read the next one

Ugh. I hate this trope. "Oh no, my dad left when I was growing up and my fiancee was a cheating douchebag thus I can never trust anyone again!" This is only exacerbated by the hero having the awesome, "Everyone I love dies, thus I can't love you because you'll die." Fuck this nonsense.

This is a fantastic debut novel
This book will grab you and I'd recommend hanging on real tight because it that good. I can't imagine the research that went into this story but if the next one is like this one, it will make you hang on until the ending. You must get this book, it's a must read.
