Revisiting this on audiobook in 2024 with the incomparable Barbara Rosenblat narrating. Trust me, if you're opting for the audiobook, get her version, not Susan O'Malley's.

More thriller than mystery, plenty of witty dialogue, tongue-in-cheek humor, sexual innuendo (in a Victorian British way), and the introduction of Nefret, who becomes part of this long-running series. The attention to detail with Egyptology is always a plus.

I'm so glad Ramses has outgrown his precociousness, but he's still a blowhard like his father.

1885. The Emersons including 10 year old son Ramses are off to a dig in Meroe, with an additional problem of trying to trace the location of a missing couple, the Forths, who disappeared in the region some 14 years ago.
An entertaining and well-written mystery.

Such a fun read. Before picking this one up, I had the thought that it would likely be quite similar to her previous four books, as they had a distinct pattern to them. While much of the pattern is delightfully in place, there are significant differences in the adventure they find themselves in this time. Peters notes this in an admission conversation between Emerson and Peabody. Definitely worth a read.

Amelia's adventures are the perfect diversion at the end of a hectic day in the classroom!

Come on. Did you really need to drag on and on and on? While I did enjoy the writing style and knowledge it imparted, I wanted to take a red pen and make it more concise.

I like Amelia and this was a different take although not my favorite of this series.
