Malice by Pintip Dunn follows a girl named Alice who has to stop a deadly virus from being created. It's best to not know anything else but this going into the book.
I found this book very compelling and readable. The plot moved along without being boring, but the mystery and "twists" didn't captivate me.
The writing style is very reminiscent of what writing was ten years ago. I chose to take this as a choice the author made based on the contents of the book.
Overall, the book wasn't groundbreaking but it was a fun and entertaining book that I would recommend to young readers who want to get into light sci-fi.
3.5/5

This book's premise was great, but I think the execution lacked a bit.
Firstly, the dialogue was too cringey at times and I cannot picture anyone saying some of the things that were said.
Secondly, I HATE INSTALOVE
Thirdly, it was predictable as hell (although there was one thing I didn't expect, although... I might've expected it, I just think I was madly hoping it wouldn't be like thatI wish she would have killed her brother, instead of that pseudo-psychological happy ending
And lastly, the main character was fucking annoying.
Alas, it was still interesting and a super quick read that I still kinda liked.

Malice is one crazy time jumping ride.
The plot is really unique and and really a cool concept. There are all these crazy different thread of stories and as we go hurtling towards the end. We find there are things happening all around that we are not even aware of. Get a group of kid Science geniuses together and they just might be able to destroy and save the world at the same time.
Alice is just living her life when she is suddenly invaded by a voice. One that has a very specific agenda for saving the future world. As Alice is forced into situations where she struggles with control with the voice, we find out different things about the characters around her.
I don’t want to give too much away about how time traveling works or even what exactly the voice wants Alice to do. The story is a bit of a mystery as Alice races to find the answers she needs before she makes a decision she can’t take back.
I loved Bandit. Her developing relationship with him is just so cute and so sweet. Most of the time anyway. They do hit some very big bumps in the road but you find you really want to root for them. Of course things don’t always get to go your way.
Malice was a fun read and I loved all the Sci-fineness of it. If you enjoy that little thriller aspect that comes with a high stakes sci-fi this is the perfect for you.

This may be the best book I have ever read.
Malice is such a great story with so many twists and turns. You are always left thinking on who the virus maker is. The time jumps are sometimes so emotional and the overall book in general is great.

Overall, this book gets 3.5 stars from me. I would recommend it to readers that enjoy Young Adult Science Fiction books and love reading books that involve time travel. Some triggers in the story: Bullying, Attempted Murder, Virus Epidemic in the future, Child Neglect/Abandonment. I may not have enjoyed the book, but I would still recommend it to other readers that are looking for something different to read in the Young Adult – Science Fiction genre.

I loved the premise behind this one, and the story seemed like it was going to be nonstop twisty-turny goodness. And in some ways it was; in others, it was pretty problematic.
The pluses: I liked Alice and Bandit, and the Avengers/Harry Potter references were a lot of fun. The story definitely had me turning pages to find out what the heck was going on and what would happen next.
The minuses:Inconsistencies. Things like Bandit saying initially that he and Charlie weren't really that close, since the guy was a hermit hiding in the woods, but later he's the son he never had.
I had a real problem with how many times present Alice was willing to kill someone on nothing more than a few mental shocks from and the word of future Alice that it was necessary. I mean, okay. The virus was obviously horrific, and she was apparently well placed to maybe have an influence on it. But murder? She was clearly woefully unprepared to go that far, yet she blithely grabbed a gun and took it with her fully intending to shoot not one person, but two. And how she just turned her back on her best friend was...disturbing. They were besties, but Alice threw all of that away in a heartbeat (again, just because future Alice said to) and then barely even thought about it afterwards beyond a "oh well [shrug]" moment or two.
Some of the "mysteries" were pretty obvious--I suspected the culprit pretty early on--but the reasons behind their culpability felt two-dimensional and shallow. Other things--like that person's supposed redemption and Alice's relationship with her father/reasons for her mother's having left--felt like they were explained away/resolved much too easily.
So...yeah. This isn't going to be my favorite book by this author, but it's not going to stop me from wanting to pick up her next one, either, so there's that.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

First, I would like to thank The Fantastic Flying Book Club and the publisher for giving me an opportunity to read e-ARC of Malice and give an honest review in return.
The book started out a little slow but it did pick up speed later in the book and continue on fast paced afterwards. I thought the time-travel part of the book was interesting, the way the author wrote it was intriguing, it was a different way of approaching time-travel. The book has a lot in it, it has future apocalypse story line, adventure, romance, and time-travel.
The main character, Alice is a typical teenager who all of sudden start getting messages from her future self. The future Alice informs Alice that she has come to help stop the person who is the virus maker that wipes half of the country in the future. She tells her that the person who invents it is someone who is in the high school.
The process of how Alice's was piecing together who was the inventor of the future virus was nice to see and you kept second-guessing yourself who it was and I was pretty shocked to find out who ended up being in the end. I like that present-time Alice decided to take a different direction on handling the virus maker because the way future Alice wanted her to do was in my opinion extreme and it would have morally affected Alice if she would have done it that way.
Overall, the writing style was done really well and Pintip pulls you in and makes you want to turn the page to see what happens next. It made me want to continue on to find what happens and if Alice listens to future self. Unfortunately, this is a standalone story, I was a little disappoint because I really wanted to know if what Alice did in the end actually work or not.
