the plot was okay-ish. hell i’d probably give it a three star review. i’m used to stupid & naive female leads so i’d survive mia. however the author lost me when mia got raped repeatedly and was okay with it?? i’m supposed to read more books about this rapist? yeah no thank you. the way the author jumped over the rape and acted like it wasn’t a big deal pissed me off. also i had absolutely no emotional attachment to mia and vince as a couple. like zero. considering this was my first read by this author and the fact i was blinded by all those five stars reviews, to say i’m disappointed is an understatement.

Usually when I see a book with a trigger that it's a dark romance, I take it with a grain of salt. When they say there are no knights in shining armor...there usually tend to be. In this case, Sam Mariano has me going back and forth on one of the characters. And, I like that. Is he truly a villain? He's done some pretty shady stuff, but is there an end game?
This is only the second book I've read from Sam Mariano and both have non-con themes and very manipulative male characters in their stories. Some readers won't like that, but the way she weaves both of these in to the storyline makes them very unique.
I loved this book and couldn't put it down. Aside from sleep, I could have read it one sitting. There is something very easy about her writing. The story is good and keeps you guessing what's going to happen next. And, while the heroine is quite naive as to what she's getting in to, I liked that about her. She is very non-chalant in her approach to the mob lifestyle and is always trying to find the bright side in everything. I'm definitely looking forward to see how her character grows and where the story goes.
“You need a new car,” he states.
“I need a new life,” I return.
“You might be in luck. I’ve never met a woman who got entangled with a Morelli and didn’t end up with a new life out of it, though I can’t say that’s always a good thing.”
That time I’m the one raising my eyebrows.
“Are we entangled?”
“I have a feeling we’re gonna be.”
There’s Vince, in line behind me. He’s wearing dark wash jeans and a charcoal gray shirt, and man, for a murderer, he looks good.
“You don’t have to keep an eye on me, you know.”
“Maybe I want to keep an eye on you,” he returns, meeting my gaze.

Wow this book was a roller coaster all right. I did like Mia and Vince so much and Mateo was something alright. I don’t think we were meant to like him but i kind of did? i have a soft spot for my villainous characters. At one point I did find Mia annoying but what i liked about it was that Mia soon realised the thing she was being annoying about was a mistake. I’m trying to be vague to avoid spoilers so it didn’t make sense. But what i meant is that she soon realises that she shouldn’t have wanted it so much. That it was a mistake.
I adored Vince, he was amazing, especially when he kissed Mia the first time, he asked her if he could kiss her. That scene was so soft and made me melt.

Not my most favorite thing ever. It was ok. (Shrugs) I was kind of bored. I think I’m used to tons more action and hotter sex scenes in these types of “mafia” books. I do, however, think it would be great for a reader new to the smutty book world. A good way to ease in

Short, snappy, ruthless. You can tell it's an early one from this author, but it's still got the same energy as her later stuff. Brutal, though. Not for the fainthearted.

This book isn’t like any other mafia romance I’ve ever come across. My first time reading my mind was blown because it was so unusual. Mateo Morelli isn’t for the faint of heart but he’s pretty amazing if you go for diabolical villain type. Which, I definitely do.
Re-reading this book I’m not sure how I ever felt sorry for Vince the first time. He takes Mateo’s bait every time and poor Mia always in the cross hairs. Because I’ve read this whole series before I actually have an easier time with this ending because I know eventually a happier one is coming.

Honestly wasn't expecting to like this book as much I did, but it also made me so angry and upset. It was painful having to watch the torture that unfolded for the main couple and it had me second guessing everyone's motives, actions, and intentions. I was not supportive of the way the author wrote about Mia's "feelings" for Matteo and really questioned some of her actions but I did try to keep in mind she felt she had no choice. I also wonder what happened to everyone else who were in her life before...Lena? her family? Any ways, I'm just glad it ended in a HEA.

Two stars because I finished it but I hate all the characters…:
Mateo is awful. Apparently he’s end game for the series. I don’t do love triangles or cheating and because his actions involve those elements…. He’s not gonna work as a hero for me. And I have to at least like the Hero if I hate everything else about the book. And before the dark romance lovers come for me:… I’m one of you. I don’t hate Mateo or this book because he does awful things. I hate that the author involved another potential MMC. I really really really hate OW/OM drama and I wish there had been a warning for this
Mia is awful. She’s apparently our end game FMC. She’s stupid, she lies, and her naïveté was infuriating. And again the. Cheating…
Vince…. He’s not awful but I can only imagine that his story will be tragic.
TW: rape , cheating, violence.
Honestly cheating or OW/OM drama is my only hard pass in romance and there is so much and apparently it will continue through out the series. So be warned.
