I felt like this book wasn’t about Mia and Vince as much as I would have liked. I felt very little investment in them and I ended up just feeling heartbroken for Vince more than anything. Mia angered me...a lot. I guess I wish I could have seen more of Vince and less of Mateo. I felt like I had no closure for Vince and Mia, the ending felt very rushed.
That being said, I have a lot of interest in Mateo so I’ve already one clicked the next book in the series.

This review is a strange one because from my understanding… this book is essentially a set up for the rest of the series. It’s almost like a prequel, but it was marketed as the first book because the information in it is necessary for the rest of the story.
This means that it was kind of a weird read. The main characters (Vince & Mia) and their love story, is kinda on the back burner during this book & is setting you up for Mateo’s (the mafia boss) introduction. (I’m pretty sure the rest of the series is about his story/arc, so that’s why Vince & Mia’s isn’t super important)
Vince & Mia’s story is entertaining (in a crash and burn kinda way) but it’s not really the main thing you focus on in this book. The main thing is Mateo

This is the first book of a 7 part series, be prepared for angst, betrayal and love.
You will need to read all 7 books to get to the HEA.
Some books in the series have a HFN but you'll need all the series.

What a memorable first book to a series. Witnessing something she shouldn’t, spells danger for Mia. Naive as to what she’s getting into, she had a real charm about her that I loved. The Morelli family cast also recognised this too and sadly events take a dark turn.
Mia is really put in between a rock and a hard place. So is Vince, and while there was times I wanted to throttle him, he too is in this pressure cooker of tension that is the Morelli’s family house. Which leads me nicely to the cause of this tension, Mr Mateo Morelli. A baddie who I loved to hate. The mere mention of his name caused me to get goosebumps and my insides to flutter! He played the evil puppeteer well, with bundles of desirability that you know you shouldn’t be attracted to but can’t resist. His actions had me hollering at my kindle and there were times I wished him dead, but hell, he got my knickers in a twist.
Well I’m hooked and can’t wait to read the next book!

3.5 I'm a little torn over this one...
Ok. So to start this book is FULL OF TRIGGERS! Abuse, rape, duress... but it's also a mafia story. I would say it is new adult because of the characters ages and the tone. It's told in first person POV of Mia. A girl who lives a poor lifestyle with a single mom and two young siblings she cares for. She witnesses a crime and then gets roped into the Morelli family's drama!
The beginning of this story the writing is a little bit meh, but it got wayyyy better and stronger as the story progressed! I wasn't really a fan of how naive Mia is, but honestly if she had common sense, this story wouldn't have happened! Haha! The men in this story are awful and villains. Yeah then will make your panties evaporate, but they also make you want to invest in a chastity belt and a shotgun for yourself.
I'm sure I'll read book two... will I be able to forgive or start to like these iffy characters? That is to be seen!

This is the first book I've read from this author, but I do like a mafia romance so I went into this with my own expectations. It turned out to be like no mafia book I've read yet.
Mia is a high school student who together with her mother and younger siblings, is just getting by in life. The last thing she expects when she's making a phone call in her yard, is to be witness to a crime taking place, by none other than Vince Morelli - a member of the most frightening mafia family around, and a fellow student. Vince spots her in the shadows and knows her life will never be the same again.
I found Mia as a character to be rather naive and forgiving. Obviously, she falls for Vince (and vice versa) even though she now knows just how much of a bad apple he is, and doesn't heed his warnings to stay away. On the other hand, I actually liked Vince as a character and could see how much he was trying to protect Mia.
Throw in some twists and turns and we are also introduced to Mateo, Vince's cousin and head of the family. One of the most manipulating characters I've ever met! Though he is a b*stard, he's intriguing as a character and I will definitely read the next book in the series at some point to find out more about him.
Overall, it was a great read with lots of unexpected twists and turns; though it did move a bit quickly at points. Unfortunately I couldn't warm to Mia as a character which has lowered my star rating. I definitely recommend though!
