This book kept me reading late into the night so I'm still tired and it's all Sam's fault. (Hope you're happy, lady ;) Things starts off when Mia snuck out of her house to call a guy she was crushing on. She inadvertently witnessed a mob hit on her neighbors by a guy she goes to school with which places her on his radar. After he breaks into her house to threaten her into silence, they quickly form an attraction. Their cute little romance hits a skid when family boss Mateo finds out and drags Mia into their criminal world.
I liked Vince and empathized his trapped helplessness from being born into a mob family and having no control over his life. Mia on the other hand, made me want to smack her. Seriously everyone in the book warned her about how dangerous Mateo was and she ignored them all, claiming to know better with her 'everyone has goodness in them' bullshit. Well she definitely learned after Mateo released the full depth of his crazy on her. Mia was so dumb. I saw the scene with the cops coming a mile away. I don't know if it was the author's intention but Mateo really stole the show. His evil mastermind puppeteering of both Vince and Mia was a thing to behold. He's the villain you love to hate but also hate to love. Can't wait to read more about him. I have the feeling he's not through with Mia yet.

I was warned. I have been hearing about this book for years. It has sat in my TBR pile for a long time. I finally read it. This is a really bad villain. I am conflicted but intrigued. Mateo Morelli has officially traumatized me. He’s a bad dude. He broke ALL the rules.

Honestly wasn't expecting to like this book as much I did, but it also made me so angry and upset. It was painful having to watch the torture that unfolded for the main couple and it had me second guessing everyone's motives, actions, and intentions. I was not supportive of the way the author wrote about Mia's "feelings" for Matteo and really questioned some of her actions but I did try to keep in mind she felt she had no choice. I also wonder what happened to everyone else who were in her life before...Lena? her family? Any ways, I'm just glad it ended in a HEA.

This book was a goddamned travesty. Girl gets raped - repeatedly - by boyfriend-of-two-week’s uncle/mob boss, bf doesn’t believe it was not consensual and proceeds to rape her in retaliation, girl gets raped by uncle AGAIN, cut to: happily ever after, white-picket-fence with bf and girl getting along swimmingly with both rapists. I am legitimately pissed off right now.

I just fell down the rabbit hole of this series where I pretty much found out what happens and how it ends and now I don't feel the need to actually read the whole series.
