A impeccably written novella - the setting is brilliantly creative, and the fascinating characters have depth and authenticity.
The plot, meanwhile, fell a bit short for me. With the focus on the character interactions and their thoughts about their interactions and how they changed as a result of their interactions - well, I felt there wasn’t enough time for a story to actually unfold. It’s certainly a well done example of this introspective kind of work, but not exactly my thing.

Such an interesting take on Sherlock Holmes set in space! This is just a novella, but the characters become real right away (maybe because of their relationship to the good detective and Watson). The book both felt fresh and futuristic, and antique in some ways. Shipminds, Deep Space, and a mystery you can't stop thinking about. This was a fun read and comes highly recommended.

I am thoroughly enjoying the world building in de Bodard's works.
