El primer libro me pareció superficial y precipitado y, aunque en el segundo el ritmo mejoró, todavía leía sin que la historia me transmitiese nada. El primer contraste que encontramos en Luna negra es que la primera mitad es bastante lenta. En cuanto a trama no ocurre realmente... casi nada, pero la subtrama amorosa sí avanza bastante, por lo que no nos permite aburrirnos. Es decir, a pesar de tener un inicio lento, es interesante y te mantiene enganchada a sus páginas.
Hay un fuerte componente político relacionado con el proyecto de Nishi que creo que es el que le da ese aspecto más pausado a la novela. Sin embargo, la segunda mitad del libro es una subida exponencial tanto de ritmo como de trama, sin que llegue a dar la sensación de que todo pasa muy rápido. Creo que la autora ha mejorado muchísimo respecto al primer libro en cuestiones de ritmo, trama y prosa.
En las reseñas anteriores os comentaba que Romina Russell, a mi parecer, tenía buenas ideas pero no sabía transmitírnoslas. Esto cambia totalmente en Luna negra: no sé si lo que nos cuenta me ha calado mejor por el tipo de mensaje o si simplemente ella ha logrado por fin hacerme empatizar con su pluma, pero a lo largo de las páginas me ha hecho sentir distintas emociones, y eso ha sido una de las cosas que más he valorado a la hora de subir la puntuación a la novela.
Como curiosidad quería comentaros que al inicio del libro viene una pequeña guía con las casas, sus guardianes y sus características principales, y me parece que hubiera sido bastante más útil haberlo puesto en el primer libro... Sobre todo porque resulta que los mellizos de Géminis eran en realidad MELLIZAS. ¿En serio? ¿Tres libros habiéndole cambiado de género a Caaseum y me entero ahora? Muy mal, todo mal.
En cuanto al romance, espero de verdad que no nos la juegue en el cuarto y último libro. Parece que el triángulo amoroso se ha resuelto y muchas veces los autores nos hacen creer que se forma X pareja pero luego pasan cosas y oh, casualidades de la vida, al final la pareja es Y. No voy a deciros con quién se queda obviamente pero independientemente de a quién prefiera yo, no me gustaría nada que jugase esa carta en la última parte de la saga.
Ya sabéis por la primera reseña que Hysan es mi favorito -aunque desde el principio sospechase totalmente de él-, y esto no ha cambiado. En las primeras páginas apenas sabremos nada, porque lo que Rho le dijo en Estrella errante le ha hecho alejarse de ella, pero os adelanto que volverá a aparecer y 💛. Creo que este es el tomo donde más vamos a conocer sus verdaderos sentimientos por nuestra protagonista, y realmente creo que es un libro donde los sentimientos de todos los personajes son importantes, en general.
Eso sí, Rho sigue pareciéndome demasiado niña y demasiado inmadura. Todavía no estoy de acuerdo con sus decisiones ni su manera de hacer las cosas, y después de todo por lo que ha pasado no entiendo cómo no ha madurado más. Aunque con el final del libro vemos una pizca de algo en lo que podría convertirse, y eso ya es mucho más interesante.
Porque el final ha sido de infarto. Ha destrozado todas mis teorías y no me ha parecido para nada predecible, aunque tal vez era porque estaba demasiado obcecada con lo que yo pensaba que iba a ocurrir y por eso no he visto las pistas. Pero, fuera como fuese, el plot-twist me pareció totalmente inesperado y el final... Madre mía. ¡Madre mía!
Por último, comentar también que Mathias, siendo mayor que Rho y habiendo pasado por cosas peores que ella en el segundo libro, tampoco ha madurado mucho. No sé si es que todos los cancerianos son medio idiotas y no se dan cuenta de nada o si justo nos han tocado estos como muestra, pero vaya, le hace falta espabilar pero bien.
En definitiva, Luna negra ha mejorado una barbaridad respecto a los libros anteriores de la saga y creo que La ascensión del nº 13, que sale el 12 de marzo en España, va a ser un final bastante interesante. Espero que no decepcione ahora que por fin le he cogido ganas a la tetralogía.

I genuinely wanted to read Black Moon but every time I tried to pick it up, I just wasn’t really in the mood for a fantasy adventure novel.
I finally decided to try the audiobook version and I really enjoyed it! The voicing of the characters was phenomenal! Rubi and Imogen were spot on to what I expected for them. I really loved that each house’s characters had slightly different accents / tones.
My only complaint with this series is that most of each book, especially this one and Wondering Star, are filled with so many of Rho’s own thoughts in the beginning and middle. But then nearly all of the action in the very end of the book. I love the world building a lot and being able to see each of the houses in more details. But I think the books could have benefitted from plot twists a little earlier on in the book that led up to the main event at the end.
As always with this series, I would highly recommend especially if you enjoy anything related to astrology!

A little slower than the previous novels and definitely had some difficulty remembering all the characters from last year but still a solid read.
These books constantly make me want to write an analytical paper about all the commentary on current events I feel Russell tries to tackle through situations and characters in these novels.
Metaphors and symbolism galore!
Also if anyone can read these books without completely falling in love with Hysan, props to you.

So this is the third book in the series so I will keep my review brief so there are no spoilers.
I've never been one to really believe in all the Zodiac signs and everything, but I still really enjoy this series! It's basically about a world set in the Zodiac signs where everyone has characteristics based on where they are from. Sometimes they intermingle in school or through travel, but typically don't trust anyone not a part of their world.
This series is about a possible thirteenth house that was erased millenia ago and is now trying to resurface. The main character, Rho, is one of the best seers of her time. A seer is someone who can look into the stars and see things about a person or the future that isn't knowable otherwise.
It's a really cool series and is really clean! Also, it's kind of fun to see how the author sees each race of people. (Hint: some have naturally occurring odd colors of hair, skin or eyes). Definitely a YA Sci-fi, but well worth the read!!

I don't know what it is about these books. I like the characters and I think the world building is great, but every time it takes me forever to get through the first 200 pages and I wonder why I keep reading them but then, I consume the last 100 pages in one sitting. It's like some kind of drug.

ZODIAC is one of those rare and special book series where each book that comes out seems to be even better than the last, WANDERING STAR certainly set a high bar, but BLACK MOON is my favorite yet. I fall more in love with this world, with these characters, and with the pulse-pounding romance with each book.
I am absolutely captivated by the premise of building an entire fictional world around the Zodiac signs. I actually had the immense pleasure of getting to attend the Penguin Teen Tour last night and listening to Romina drop some serious astrological knowledge. It was, quite frankly, impressive and certainly made me appreciate that element of the world-building even more.
One of my favorite things about these books is the villain, who becomes more mysterious and captivating as the story progresses. The Master's secretly widespread influence and following creates this environment in which you never know which characters you can and can't trust and drastically increases the tension in the story.
There are so many things I enjoyed about this book from the dedicated friendships, the brother/sister relationship, and the INTERGALACTIC BALL!!!! And I have to admit that I adore the romance. It is so swoony and captivating, and I just can't get enough of it.
I am thrilled that THIRTEEN RISING is coming out next month. I cannot wait to read what I'm sure will be a stunning conclusion to a series that I have enjoyed so much.
