Lili Garcia was content playing the piano, but when an opportunity to play bass for a newly forming band appeared, she jumped at the chance to learn the new instrument. This new punk band takes off and with the addition of a new guitarist they begin to make it big. Unfortunately, Billy the Kid has secrets he only partly shares with Lili and while trying to understand William, she also is looking within to decide what she really wants.
Naked ’76 is a stand-alone historical fiction novel that will entice the reader with a realistic storyline while throwing the history of English Punk Rock into the mix. The band members’ rocky associations leave them always on the verge of imploding, yet Brooks’ tale keeps readers going along the way. The book was enjoyable and worth the read, but I finished the book feeling like something was left out. Even though I feel something is missing, I still think it is a good read for those who like realistic fiction and/or historical fiction.

Set in London in the summer of 1976, during the punk explosion, this story follows the members of a band as they make their way in the music scene. Rather too specific in its time and place, and without much context, so will only really work for teens who have an interest in that era. See my full review here.
This book started off so well. Punk. London. The 70's. A teenage band. Sounds great right. Unfortunately it got mired in the angst and drama. Yes teenage years are fraught with drama, but all these kids just had shit adult all around. And a lot of the behavior in the book was just flat. A description of the feelings but I had trouble finding the emotion in the words.

I generally enjoyed this book. Mainly I just got it because of the cover (yay for Docs!) but also because of its premise.
This book is set in 1975/1976 London in the emerging punk rock scene, and follows the main character as she joins an emerging punk band as the bass guitarist. There is romance drama, and general drama, but I think what I liked about this was how it really got into the scene. Drugs and alcohol are portrayed, as is the sex and the hardcore attitude of the day (or so I've been told/seen/researched. 90's baby, y'all!). But there is also an element of the IRA. It's actually a very large element in this story, and quickly becomes the underlying story in place of the band and the punk scene.
This isn't generally a period I read about/look into, so it was interesting to see a new perspective.

2.75 Stars.
I was really looking forward to reading a fiction book centred around punk rock, you don’t come across good ones, or barely any, often. I was enjoying it the beginning even though the writing is pretty basic but after awhile it seemed to drag on a lot.

This was alright. I found it annoying with all the name dropping of early successful punk bands and the IRA subplot felt a little contrived.
