This is the first book in the Arcana Chronicles series and it was so good! I have always been curious about taro cards and this really was very intriguing to me. The beginning of the book shows us Evangeline's life before the flash (the flash is basically an apocalyptic-type blast that wipes out almost everyone on earth. There are even zombie-type things that are mindless creatures that can kill and infect and only come out at night I think. Anyway Evie has a great life with a great boyfriend who is on the football team, everything seems perfect... until it isn't. When she is younger she has these visions and creates these drawings and they are about things that happen during and after the flash but no one knows that, her mom just thinks she is crazy and sends her off to a mental hospital. When she comes back home and returns to school that's when everything starts to happen. The bad boy from school Jackson comes to make sure she survived and warns her about a group of slavers that are headed in their direction. They leave her farm and that is when everything really starts happening! She starts realizing she has powers and that there are other people like her and they are in some kind of game where they all have to take each other out before it's over because there can only be one left! Through all this she starts to fall in love with the bad boy Jackson and I'm sure I am not alone when I say that everyone probably loves him! I mean he says the best lines like this -
“If you touch me like that again, Evangeline,” he began in a husky tone, dropping to his seat once more, “in the space of a heartbeat, I will have you off this bike and onto the closest horizontal surface. And I woan be picky, no.”
I mean...... why was she fighting it???? Oh I know - because Jacks had no idea what she really was! and then the ending of the book made me scream! UGH WELL, thank goodness Im a little late to the party since most of the books are out so I can go directly to book 2.....

No! I can't be done and not have the second book!! Well, I've got it ordered. Kinda want to listen to audiobook just to hear Jackson's Cajun accent.
It's a slow start but eventually ramps up and the ending is excellent. Can't wait to read the next book.
Jobbra szamitottam, de az utolso 40-50 oldal miatt 4*
I picked this up as a whim in the bargain bin. It was really Good!
It was kinda gross in some parts so I just skipped over those because it did t fit with the theme of the main character. Yes I know she's a major card but to much detail on some things yikes.
Anyhow reading the next one as we speak.

Still one of my favourite book series of all time by one of my favourite authors. It's a post-apocalyptic battle where the warriors are Tarot cards...which is SO FREAKING COOL. The balance of creepy and surreal horror with teen angst is done incredibly well and you see growth from immature, imperfect characters even within just this first book. The lack of communication and the conflict between Evie and Jack can sometimes be unbelievably frustrating, but it embodies the overly dramatic experience of the teenage years (even without the apocalyptic hellscape) to a t. This one will always have a place on my most loved books pile.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH i love this book and i want some Jack Deveaux please :)
