I loved so many things about this book! I thought that the use of tarot cards corresponding with human counterparts that have certain strengths and weaknesses was clever and very well done. I have never seen this done in a book before so it was a fresh and exciting concept for me to sink my teeth into. I thought that the author did a great job of having visions/drawings correspond with things so as to make the reader almost believe that characters were crazy.
The world building had good bones to it but I would have liked for more information than just for the author to describe a few things about some of the results of the ancient prophesy. Other than some lack of detail, that was easy to come to terms with the only other issue that I had with the book was the main character. I found her stubborn and naive. I realize that she is trying to cope with a truckload of crap but I would like to think that she would have more common sense than she did. She grows as the book progresses to the point where she isn't as whiny or annoying. This leads me to believe that the sequel will be better due to continued character growth!

This is one of my favourite series! I loved this book and this series! I am so desperate for the fourth to come out (come on august!).
It is the perfect mix between two of my favourite genres, dystopian and paranormal. The series is not lacking in swoon worthy alpha males. Though I am struggling a bit as later in the series there is a love triangle and its rare I’m in the position where I can’t decide which guy I like best. And that makes me worry because if I love both males can there be an ending where I’m actually happy?! I don’t want either of the guys to be sad!
This book starts off more like a paranormal ya, with a teenage girls diary about life as a highschooler while she is going through some things. It’s not until later when the apocalypse happens and things start to get more intense. I loved the balance between the drama and intense moments, with the day to day life teen drama and romance moments that I love.
I love the kickass heroine and the slow building romance where the guy starts off as a jerk. This book just had everything I love. I also loved the premise! I’ve not seen anything like it and I’m loving learning about tarot cards and guessing who each character is.
Also a great audiobook. Totally recommend!

I loved a lot about this book. though I coild have done without the ! all the time. it is written alright and it is very much from the viewpoint of a 16 year old girl. the arcana is pretty sweet and how its based of all of that
Hmmmm ... not sure how I really feel about this one (3.5 stars?) I listened to the audio version ... and I'm not sure how I felt about that either. It was all quite bizarre.
Starts off super spooky in a post-apocalyptic world (male voice/perspective). He (Arthur) meets Evie and she tells him her story. Switch to female voice/perspective and before the whole world went crazy. Quite a bit before. Tons of time just telling a basic teen/high school story that when it switched back to Arthur, it was a bit jarring. This happened a few times.
Then there was the whole Jack/Creole(basin)/French thing. Very apparent in the audiobook, as the narrators were very accented in these parts. I'm wondering how it would have come across if I had been reading it myself. I got quite annoyed at Jack, but also at his speech (how he calls Evie "bee bee" and mom "mare" ... quite confusing at one point as I wasn't sure if he was talking about Evie's mom, or Evie's horse!)
... and the whole Taro card bit. Really not my thing. Yet ... it did keep my interest and I think I continue to the next book. It is actually available immediately from the library, but I might need a break before continuing on.

Five things about Poison Princess by Kresley Cole 📚📚📚📚📚
1. The book stack rating for this one is based on pure enjoyment not literary merit. To be clear, this is a post-apocalyptic, YA Romance, fantasy and it is a lot. And I love it.
2. This was a reread. I first read this in 2016. I believe the last book in the series is finally being released this year so I’m doing a reread. Let me just say that while I remembered what happened…I didn’t remember how any of it happened at all. I thought I had but I was remembering almost everything incorrectly. It’s like my brain took the main points and built its own little story that ended up at the same place but took a completely different route. 😂
3. Every time Jack calls Evie “bebe” I die a little inside. It’s got to get the award for most cringy term of endearment ever used in a YA novel.
4. For all it’s cringe-worthiness this book was impossible to put down. I had not intended to read it in a few hours this evening but I just kept saying I’ve more chapter until it was done.
5. I am so excited to read the second book next month. I am so curious if I remember it any more correctly than I did this one.
