I totally wanted to read this book because it's plot or story is based on tarot cards, which is new for me because I've never read about/know about tarot cards. The prologue of the book definitely hooked me in with its intrigue and mystery and how Evie got in that position alone. But there was so many things wrong with this book especially the how preppy and stuck up and rich the whole school was. The whole classism and prejudice against the Cajuns. Also I didn't like how the characters supported another. I did want to continue reading the book because I wanted to pull through and see how it ended but I just couldn't put myself through that. I think I would've enjoyed this more when I was younger in my pre-teen years (middle school) because I've had this book on my tbr since 2013.

Listened to this audiobook for five hours...... But it just didn't seem to be going anywhere. There were things I didn't really like at the start of the story but I kept on listening as I was interested to find out what was happening, but it kinda dragged on a bit too long for me to continue with. Just not for me.

I like the book, as it’s fun and different. The relationship between Evie and Jack irritates me, but that is probably because I’m not a fan of romances. Still a book that’s at the top of my list.
Devoured this one! Was hooked from word one by the unexpectedly dark tone. Loved the apocalyptic point of view and the arcana card characters. The reveal is a little slow but the conclusion is strong. Proceeding directly (ish) to book 2.

I honestly cannot even begin to put into words how much I freaking enjoyed this book!!!!
As a massive fan of Kresley Coles Immortals after dark series I have always been very apprehensive of starting any of her other works just in case they didn't up to my love for that series, however I'm now beating myself up for not starting it sooner!
Usually with series like this one (ya) I always find myself hating at least one of the characters if not more but that just wasn't the case here. Every character I feel was incredibly well thought out and developed, and the ways that they interacted with each other all seemed very genuine. in all honesty it doesn't read like a typical ya fantasy book, I found myself on more than one occasion thinking that I was reading her adult series, just without all of the smutty sex scenes that are usually present - and actually found it to be just as enjoyable!
Along a similar vein I normally never read books that are set in the apocalypse or about zombies etc because I just don’t get on with them, they always bore me near to tears and I find them to all be so similar it’s infuriating, but I think that this series has just enough different elements to it to make it stand out from all of the others!
I’ve already went ahead and ordered the rest of the books in the series because I know I’m going to read them within a week
