WOO Sorpresa!! me encanto este libro, empece a leerlo pensando en una historia diferente y resulto ser otra. Me encanto porque desde el primer capitulo quería saber que pasaba con la protagonista para terminar en la situación del primer capitulo, eso lo hizo adictivo. Además me pareció muy original, hay una chica loca de manicomio, el apocalipsis y las cartas del tarot.
I'm listening to this series to prepare for the final book! It's been 9 years since I initially read this and I still love it! I'm blown away by the world building and characters. The post-flash world is gruesome and nightmarish: zombie-like creatures, cannibals, lawless militia, slavers, not to mention the environmental devastation. Evie and Jack, high school enemies with intense mutual attraction, have to cross the southern states in a perilous quest to reach the Outer Banks.
I love how the story in book 1 is formatted and told, and even though I knew the ending, I was still listening to the audiobook with rapt attention. Jack is one of those characters that I'm like half of what he does/says makes me angry, but then he makes up for it in a big way. Evie, like Jack, is not perfect, but she's someone I can root for and sympathize with. They've both been through a lot and go through even more. Lots of hurt/comfort, forced proximity, mutual pining, enemies to lovers... and they're just getting started.

Oh, wow. I enjoyed this tremendously and could barely put it down. Yes, yes, it's a bit formulaic - ditzy, helpless cheerleader has secret mystical powers that she has to learn to embrace, sexy, gruff hero who is completely devoted to Heroine (and way more perfect than any 18-year old could ever be), a love triangle on the horizon, and, in the end, a decided Hunger Games-y vibe - but honestly, I didn't care. It was gripping, and engrossing, and original enough to overlook any clichés of the genre. The description of the apocalyptic world after the Flash, several fleshed-out side characters, and the interesting set-up of putting the Heroine in mortal danger in the prologue and THEN telling the story from the beginning made for great reading pleasure, and I've already downloaded book 2 despite the steep price of almost 9 euros.
Really, really good! Evie was just a *tad* too whiny for me, and Jackson was a *tad* too dark/handsome/mysterious, but I found the tarot plot to be really original and I definitely want to read the next one.
So good! Just so, so good. I love the concept of this book. I love that everything is pretty much a mystery to everyone and no one can really get a straight answer. I don't know if that makes sense, but it totally left me in suspense, trying to figure things out as the story progressed. I can't wait to read the next book!
There aren't enough words to express the love. My friend calls this book "Crack" and she nailed it. I couldn't put it down and I wanted more, more, more! The story crosses and bends several genres: Post-apocalyptic, Contemporary YA, Romance, Paranormal Fantasy and Dystopian. The tension between Evie and Jackson is palpable, and by far one of my top favorite angst-ridden romantic relationships. While there's a ton of post-apocalyptic out there, this story is incredibly unique and original. Oh, just go get it. Cannot wait to read the next one in the series.

Why did I have to wait so long to try and read Cole's YA series? I had just read "The Warlord wants forever" when this one caught my attention. I decided the try the audiobook and I LOVED IT!
Maybe because there is a mystery behind why the world ended? Maybe because Evie has visions and dreams which in the end came true? Maybe, just maybe Jack is a Cajun and he is swoon-worthy?
When the world ends in fire smoke and plague, which turns most of the population into zombies, Evie with Jack's help will embark on a journey in order to find her grandmother as also answers to the reasons behind Evie's mysterious powers.
The story had many twists, it was very emotional and I liked the way Jack and Evie struggled. There was action and enemies everywhere which levitated the fact that both protagonists tried to understand each other and had many misunderstandings.
Using also the Arcana Tarot cards as the plot base was also very original and I hadn't seen it before. The combination between the post apocalyptic world, the zombies and the touch of reincarnation created a stunning world building!
Without wanting to spoiler I would recommend this one to all those who want both the adventure and the sexy romantic moments!
