Another winner from [author:Sarah M. Eden|2515462]. It kept me smiling and laughing. I devoured this book on flights and during layovers this past weekend - what a wonderful distraction from the stress of travel.
I love the characters - new and old (characters from [book:The Kiss of a Stranger|10048521] make an appearance) and we get to learn more about Philip Jonquil (who we first met in [book:The Kiss of a Stranger|10048521] and who we've all been dying to know more about - am I right Melanie?). I don't know that I love the female character, Sorrel, as much as I did Persephone ([book:Seeking Persephone|5640523]) or Catherine ([book:The Kiss of a Stranger|10048521]) but she is still a great strong character.
Very glad I have it in my own library. I will be reading it again.

This was a really cute book. At first, the writing in the beginning threw me off, since it seemed like the author didn't know how to use pronouns (it sounds mean, but it almost stopped me from reading, because the names of the characters were used to start almost every sentence. That kind of stuff really bothers me). However I powered through, and by the second chapter, the writing improved drastically (I have no idea how that happened).

After that, I was really able to get into the book, and I can tell that I'm already going to binge read every book in this series. The best things about this novel, were the characters and the banter between them (especially between Phillip and Sorrel). Can I just say I adore Phillip? He's such a great guy, and I was totally rooting for him and Sorrel to finally admit their feelings for each other. Concerning Sorrel, she was funny, and I liked her sarcastic demeanour, although she could be a bit stubborn at times (which infuriated me) but I got where she was coming from. She definitely developed throughout the book as she learned to finally accept help, and I loved her determination as well. Secondary characters were also well written, and overall, this book was delightful.

I adore the Jonquil brothers! Sarah Eden has crafted a wonderfully delightful book based around the exploits of the eldest brother Philip. A mixture of adventure and romance this is a fun regency romance.

This was a pretty enjoyable antagonists-to-lovers, although I would have been rather less forgiving than Sorrel was when Philip put his foot in his mouth all the way to the hip in the library scene. Sorrel's disability was played realistically instead of as a "to be overcome," which I appreciated, although I really needed to punch her mother in the teeth repeatedly.

It’s been awhile since I’ve read this one and it was so fun to revisit Philip and Sorrel’s story! As the first book in the Jonquil series we get to briefly meet all six of Philip’s brothers, their mother, and a few other special characters we’ll get to know better later. And of course we get to know Philip and Sorrel and their enemies to lovers story!

I love Philip and Sorrel! Philip has a tendency to take care of the people he loves in subtle, indirect, but powerful ways. I loved seeing Philip do his best to make each of his brothers dreams come true, even though they likely don’t even realize what he’s doing. I think this is the main reason Philip is so perfect for Sorrel, he can and will take care of her without taking away her sense of independence.

My favorite part about this story is seeing two characters with very strong emotional walls and facades come together and help each other tear down those walls, show some vulnerability, and become stronger and better because of it. Sorrel brings the very sincere and compassionate man out from behind the dandified mask Philip wears, and Philip brings out the very tender and brave woman in Sorrel. I just love when people bring out the best in each other and inspire others to grow!

Lastly, I love how passionate and determined both Philip and Sorrel are. Neither of them do anything halfway and I enjoyed seeing them support each other and overcome challenges together.
One of the reasons I love Sarah Eden’s books so much is because all of her characters are faced with incredible challenges and they learn to overcome them. That is so inspiring to me, and Friends & Foes is no different.

If you enjoy enemies to lovers tropes, sweet clean regency romances, a little bit of suspense, and characters that are both inspiring and entertaining you should definitely read Friends & Foes! And you might as well read the rest of the Jonquil series to see more of those lovably idiotic Jonquils ;)

It was sweet. Sorrel has a limp and Phillip wears a mask. It was nice to see Crispin and Catherine from [b:The Kiss of a Stranger|10048521|The Kiss of a Stranger|Sarah M. Eden|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1294070607s/10048521.jpg|14944468].
