I hate a story with an ambiguous ending but as this was real life I will forgive it. What an absolutely horrible life that poor girl led. I have no doubt in my mind that she was definitely abused in some way. Once again written in a style thy made me want to finish this book as soon as possible because I just had to know what happened.

Well I will say this story is very compelling and I definitely felt the need to finish it asap to find out what actually is happening to the poor child in this story. It’s quite unbelievable though. I’ve seen it’s suppose to be based on the real experiences of the author during her career but it felt embellished. As if her deep knowledge on the topic of special needs children has helped her create this story. Besides it being unbelievable, it is a well written story.

Did again admire Torey, but was so confused and kinda creeped out by Jadie all the time. I don't really get how some parts of the story played out, like why did we never hear anything anymore about Jady assaulting Reuben. And am honestly so confused by the end. Like, I get it is a non-fiction book, so it can't be cleared out any better, but it was honestly quite vague.

This book changed the landscape of my middle school years. I think it was highly inappropriate to have this in a middle school library (some of the descriptions are quite graphic), but I remember reading it over and over again.

The last 100 or so pages of this book finally gave it some worthiness but for me the rest was unnecessarily boring filler. The author clearly needed to fill space as there isn't enough of a story (that she knows of) to write an entire book so she spent the first 200 or so pages repetitively setting us up for the end and along the way told the deconstructed stories of characters that didn't contribute anything to the overall story. If you're interested in the topics, I'd recommend googling "elective mutism" and the several others (I don't want to spoil this for anyone who is still planning on reading the book so you'll have to find the rest for yourselves) that were discussed for a much more interesting take on each.

To be honest, I skimmed over a lot of paragraphs because I felt like they weren't leading to anything imperative to the book. After finishing it, I stand by that decision.
