Man, how have I not read these before? Pierce was my very first introduction to fantasy, wwwwwaaaayyyyyy back when I was, uh, 10, maybe? So I have a soft spot for here books in general, and Tortall in particular. So, this is great YA fantasy, pretty much. It's not as complex as the Lioness series, but it's still good. I mean, as a grown-up, there's not really any surprises here, and the reading is more about re-visiting a treasured setting, with a comfortable voice to guide me. The story stands on it's own as something interesting, but for me at least, the story is of secondary interest.

I’ve loved Tamora Pierce since a school librarian recommended it to me when I was 12/13. I can’t believe that I haven’t read this series considering how much I loved the song of a lioness quartet. Just what I needed.

Oh God, it's good! Shockingly good! But well, you have to read The Song of The Lioness quartet first, but this book reminds me why I love reading Tamora Pierce's books! It's a hard-core fantasy book and not all readers might like it, but it enchants me and draws me in, urging me to find out the ending of the book. It is good.
At first, I thought, 'Hm.. Why did I read Alanna: The First Adventure (first Song of the Lioness book) again?'. But this book caused me to remember that the fantasy-ness is addictive (because if it wasn't, why the hell did I buy the second, third and fourth book for the Song of the Lioness quartet?).
Can't wait for Wolf-Speaker *the second book* to be returned to the library (God dammit you person who borrowed Wolf-Speaker, how long does it take you to read a book?!)

Re-reading Tamora Pierce books from my childhood. Upping the star rating to 4 as well. It's a much better book than I remember it being! So rare to enjoy a children's book more re-reading it as an adult!
