I decided to pick this up mainly due to the badger on the cover and that I knew of Tamora Pierce, having previously picked up another book by her. I can say that this was a pleasant surprise.

I picked this up for nostalgia reasons and it deliverd the way Tamora Pierce always does. The audiobook was fun too, being both full-cast and narrated by the author herself.

I wish I had discovered this serie when I was younger. 11 year old me would have absolutely DEVOURED this series. I would have been head over heals for this book. A young girl that can speak to animals and gets a new found family filled with cool people? HELL YEAH. Brb recommending this serie to all the preteens I can find.
Side note: why do all the good fantasy books always have the most atrociously ugly covers??

I like Tammy's writing, and I like her sense of humor in real life when I've seen her on panels.
