The Wrong Girl

C.J. Archer

3.37 AVERAGE

This is the first in a trilogy. The characters were not well developed and you were kept guessing or wondering about them constantly. The story is really a good one and has the potential for becoming deeper and more detailed. The story moves on at a pretty good pace and does keep your interest. Since this is the first book I am going to give the second one a go. It is a YA so I am giving it some grace.

Didn't have time
mysterious

Surprisingly engaging for a freebie, but stops rather suddenly with lots of questions unanswered.

In a genre where it's customary to feature a mysterious girl locked away in an attic, Hannah Smith yearns to break free from that very stereotype. Despite her narcolepsy and her role as a companion to an earl's daughter with her own peculiar affliction, Hannah knows she's fortunate to have a roof over her head and sustenance when countless orphans suffer on the unforgiving streets. Yet, her heart aches for freedom, and she never expected that liberty would come in the form of a kidnapping.

Jack Langley, a striking figure, whisks her away to a place known as Freak House, where her life takes an unexpected turn. Here, she finds herself surrounded by a mad scientist, his niece, a mute servant, and the enigmatic Jack, a fire starter with a shadowed past. They assure Hannah that she is not a prisoner, that they are there to aid her. The only issue is that they believe she is the earl's daughter. The real quandary arises when they discover their mistake.

This is a captivating twist on the traditional Gothic romance narrative, and I found myself thoroughly engrossed in Hannah's journey. Hannah's character is a beacon of strength and resilience in this narrative, and I found myself truly rooting for her. Jack, the charismatic fire starter, adds a layer of excitement and intrigue to the story that is utterly captivating.

I can't wait to read the next book!

I downloaded this via the Kobo app (I like their reading stats) and started this on my way home from the beach. I finished it today after driving home from a concert. WOW I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to start the next one in the series. First time reading Ms. Archer also and I love her storytelling style.
