This is a good book made better by an amazing narrator. There were spots where I had to relisten because I became distracted with what I was doing while listening. I look forward to listening to book 2 right away.

I wish the author would go with a different cover artist. I would never have picked this book up based on the cover, but I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I’ve been craving more CJ Archer since I was all caught up with the Glass and Steele and Glass library series. This hit the spot.

{my thoughts} - This book was rather enjoyable. It is about a girl named Hannah Smith that is kidnapped. She is assumed to be the daughter of an Earl until she informs her captors that they have the wrong girl. She goes through weeks of self discovery. She learns what it is like to trust in others and to have freedom. Things she otherwise hadn't had the ability to enjoy in the past. This book centers around paranormal abilities and many different emotions. This book is a rather fast read, it captures the reader and drags them into the book. I enjoyed learning new details as they were reveled, but what I enjoyed most was actually feeling like I was Hannah, like I was in the book and the book was about me. It is incredibly well written and pulls you in from page one.
{reason for reading} - I was given a copy of this book by a fellow blogger in return for an honest review.

The Wrong Girl is a Gothic-styled novel, complete with girls locked up in the attic. Hannah Smith is a narcoleptic low-born girl who has been locked up in the attic with her best friend, an earl’s daughter who just so happens to set things on fire with her mind. But when Hannah is kidnapped and mistaken for the earl’s daughter, Hannah decides to pretend that she is the fire-starter they are looking for.

I cannot fathom what kind of other books people have read if they felt justified giving this book stars. I do not know and do not want to know what the rest of this book is like. I could not even finish it. The characters disappeared and were never mentioned again, character development was a fanciful tangent and as with some young adult, it seemed imperative that we know THE HAIR AND EYE COLOUR of each character (and as this was probably the most interesting part of their personality) I can understand
A Good Historical Story With A Paranormal Twist.
I don’t usually choose historical genres or those aimed at a young adult (YA) audience – The Wrong Girl is both. However, I've read and really enjoyed Archer's The Last Necromancer that was also set in Victorian England. I went into this audiobook with an open mind. The Wrong Girl is good but didn't live up to all my expectations.
Lucy Rayner is a new-to-me narrator. I liked the pace at which she read the story. Lucy also created a number of distinctive voices for the characters that were appropriate for their station in life. However, my issues with her performance include the rhythm she employed throughout and a couple of the voices she chose. I'm not sure how to explain why I found the cadence and rhythm so tricky but I struggled to hear everything clearly. Having to rewind often because something was read too quietly or jumping at suddenly loud words. Lucy's performance was a distraction.
Our protagonist, Hannah Smith, is a product of her time as are all the characters in this book. Women cannot be academics or achieve status. The head of the household is Lord and Master and what he says goes. My modern sensibilities always struggle with the restrictions, prejudices and social injustices of times past. (We have enough inequality in our modern world for my spirit to contend with). However, Hannah does have many of the traits I look for. She's resilient and certainly has plenty of gumption. So much was "kept secret for your own safety" and "you don't need to know that" it got me as frustrated as she was.
The plot wasn't as exciting or gritty as I was hoping either. I found myself easily distracted or falling asleep while listening. The Wrong Girl is the first book in a trilogy. Some questions were answered but many more are left to be resolved later.

This book was just blah – meaning I don’t have much to say about it at all. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t good either. It was very meh overall.
The concept of the story was okay, but I don’t feel it was delivered very well. I wasn’t able to fully get into the story or the characters. I didn’t really care where the story was going or what was going to happen to these characters. I was slightly curious about the exact circumstances of Hannah’s past and why she was lied to, etc. I still am curious because we never got to find out. That kept me going to the end of the book. However, I’m honestly not curious enough to pick up the second book. It won’t take me long to forget about this book.
